South Korea Make Computer Gaming a College Major

As a child, were you told by your parents that computer gaming would destroy your life and get you nowhere? Were you grounded from using the computer when you got low grades in school? Well, here’s some good news for you! You can now have a bright future with computer gaming!

Chung-Ang University, one of South Korea’s top 10 schools, will be accepting computer gamers into the school as “athletes.”
Starting this school year, the university will be accepting eSports applicants and putting them in the school’s Department of Sports Science, which is traditionally known as the home of ball games and other physical sports.
The offer may be non-traditional, but maybe Chung-Ang sees this as a step towards making gaming the next “it” in the next few years.

15-year-old Filipino high school student invented an in-sole power generator ; Generating Electricity By Walking

Did you know that you can produce electricity by just walking? Here's my documentation of the gizmo that I've conceptualize over the years. It's a shoe insole that generates electricity solely by walking!

The phrase "power walk" may soon get a new meaning, after 15-year-old Filipino high school student Angelo Casimiro invented an in-sole power generator that can fit into an ordinary sneaker "Generating Electricity By Walking" .

Casimiro said his in-sole generator, which can charge personal devices like smartphones, can benefit Filipinos in remote areas where there is no electricity.

At the heart of the device is a piezoelectric component that can generate 26 volts.
A 400mAh lithium ion battery by jogging eight straight hours.

Piezoelectricity is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials in response to applied mechanical stress. The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure

Casimiro is using double or sandwich version of the crystal so in can double the power generated.

Piezoelectric Effect

The special resin in orgonite shrinks during the curing process, permanently squeezing the quartz crystal inside which creates a well-known piezoelectric effect inside the crystal, meaning its end-points become polarized electrically. It is believed this is also what causes the orgonite to function so effectively as a positive energy generator.

The Piezoelectric Effect was discovered in the 1880′s and is used widely in a number of transducers and electronic gear. Your old record player had a cartridge that used the piezoelectric effect, the ultrasonic transducers in your ancient car alarm used it, that hospital ultrasound scanner uses it, some gas and cigarette lighters use it. Then there are strain gauges and accelerometers, flow meters and pressure transducers of all sorts including altimeters, variometers and airspeed indicators not forgetting modern barometers, model gyros, radios, TV’s, microphones and computers, your Swatch watch and even artificial limbs. You name it, there’s a tiny piece of quartz or piezo-ceramic in there somewhere.
On a global scale, large earthquake movements are also said to produce massive releases of piezoelectricity in the form of sparks and ball lightning as rock formations are put under extremes of pressure.

To support the device, his entry to Google's 2014 Science Fair, by giving his YouTube video on the project a thumbs-up.

Swift : Apple's New Programming Language

Swift will use the same LLVM (Low Level Virtual Machine) compiler and runtime as Apple’s Objective-C implementation, and its simplified syntax gives it an easier learning curve.
The reason behind introducing Swift was to make it easier for developers to create apps for Apple's mobile platform. Apple Developers write codes line after line and then compile those results to see output, but using Swift language they can see results in real time instantly while writing their codes.
Also Syntax for type declarations, Switch statement and for other functions are easier to use and faster than the Objective-C and Python.
But that doesn't mean that Swift will completely kill Objective-C, rather Swift will co-exist with the older programming languages. Developers that can write some part of the code in Objective-C and remaining part in Swift, its upto them only.
Also, there are many tools available to port Objective-C to Java i.e port an app from iOS to Android, but porting Swift apps to Android will now become a tough task for developers.
Apple says that Swift has been in development for many years and finally now they have published a free 500-page Swift Programming Language book if you want to learn more about the language.

Apple Reveals iOS 8

Apple has unveiled iOS 8 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
The new version of iOS, which will soon come to iPhones and iPads, includes many new features.

iOS 8 brings Active Notifications, enabling users the ability to respond to notifications without launching the app it comes from. Swiping notifications will bring up a pair Accept/Decline buttons.
Apple is also bringing an enhancement to the multi-tasking app screen, accessible by double-clicking the Home button. In addition to showing all apps running, the screen shows a scrolling strip of favorite contacts, identified by photos, along the top of the screen. Tap one, and you'll be able to call, message or FaceTime the contact.

Mail is enhanced, too, letting you pull down an email draft so you can perform another task while composing email. Similar to notifications, swiping an email in to the side will delete it.
Apple added some enterprise features in iOS 8. Users can subscribe to specific message threads called VIP threads, calendars can share "busy" information with an organization, and iCloud can work with third-party storage providers like Box and OneDrive.

The keyboard in iOS brings an upgrade that Android users will find familiar: predictive typing. As you type, suggestions for what you may type next appear above the keyboard. The suggestions can adapt depending on who you're talking to — for example, the sentence "The meeting was..." could get suggestions like "rescheduled/cancelled" for one contact and "epic/awesome" for another.
Messages have a set of upgrades, including location sharing, the ability use of the iPhone's Do Not Disturb feature to mute notifications from a specific thread, and a new feature called Tap to Talk, which lets you speak and send an audio message the recipient can play back (but doesn't convert the speech to text). Details of the contacts you are talking to within a conversation are a tap away in the new "Details" button in the top right of any screen.

The Messages app also takes advantage of the iPhone's sensors: You can reply to a message — either with a call or an audio message — by simply raising the phone to your ear.
iCloud Drive, a new feature in OS X 10.10 Yosemite, also comes to iOS. Storing and editing documents in the cloud — with different kinds of apps — is enabled through the service, and it's compatible with Windows devices, too.

iOS 8 has a larger emphasis on fitness through an app simply called Health. It's supported by a service called HealthKit, which lets gives health and fitness app developers a centralized place on the iPhone to integrate their software with. Apple is also working with health providers to get the most out of the service.

iOS 8 also includes Family Sharing, which finally adds a long-requested feature: linking Apple IDs. With family sharing, up to six family members can share any iTunes content that any of them has purchased, and if one family member tries to buy an app or in-app purchase, the credit-card holder will get a notification, allowing them to grant or deny the request.

Apple unveils new software for both its mobile (iPhone and iPad) and desktop (Mac) platforms every June at WWDC. Rumors about the introductions have circulated for the past few months, including a dramatic design overhaul for OS X and a possible smart home initiative. The new software typically launches in the fall, alongside new hardware.

Keep Calm and Watch Movies

If you ask me  “What movie made you fall in love with watching movies?”
I love watching any movies  genre  like Adventure,  Sci-fy ,  Comedy, and Fantasy.

Actually there is no specific genre as long it catches my attention ahaha.

There are times in life when every man must learn to kick back and relax. Luckily for you, Movies are more than willing to help out. A quality films that require little thinking and even less emotional investment. The movie industry calls them “chill-out” movies .

For me "The Matrix" makes  me fall in love with movies!.

In the near future, a computer hacker named Neo discovers that all life on Earth may be nothing more than an elaborate facade created by a malevolent cyber-intelligence, for the purpose of placating us while our life essence is "farmed" to fuel the Matrix's campaign of domination in the "real" world. He joins like-minded Rebel warriors Morpheus and Trinity in their struggle to overthrow the Matrix.

Well I will  forget Keanu Reeves supper slow motion   moves,  kinetic, atmospheric, visually stunning, and mind-bending.

When it happened in 1999, "The Bullet Time Effects" everyone’s mind was blown. The question was simply how did they do that? and continued with two sequels.

The Matrix slams you back in your chair, pops open your eyes and leaves your jaw hanging slack in amazement. The series began with the feature film The Matrix (1999), and continued with two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003)

Throwback: Famous Website Looked Like at Launch

Throwback Famous Website  Looked Like at Launch , added some info.

1. Google

While the company's design doesn’t seem to have changed a whole lot, its services and capabilities sure have. Created by Stanford PhD students Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Google officially launched Sept. 4, 1998. The interface was so simple because the founders didn’t know HTML and were looking for a quick design.

2. YouTube

The video sharing website that brought us hits like “Charlie bit my finger” and “Sneezing panda” first launched in February 2005 with a practically empty interface and no evidence of videos. The first video uploaded to the site was created by one of YouTube's founders, Jawed Karim, and was titled “Me at the Zoo.” It was a 19-second clip of him in front of elephants at the San Diego Zoo.

3. Facebook

Facebook -- or should I say Thefacebook -- was created by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004. As the original interface indicates, the site was only available for Harvard University students, which eventually expanded to today's 800 million users across the world.  The interface also featured the image of a man’s face in the upper left hand corner, a digitally manipulated photo of Al Pacino.

4. Yahoo!

An acronym for “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle,” Yahoo was the product of another Stanford duo, Jerry Yang and David Filo. In March 1995 the site was heralded as the first online navigational guide to the web. The original interface featured a simple search bar and hyperlinks to other websites, but soon became a sleek, personalized news website.

5. Amazon

The mecca of online shopping can trace its roots back to 1995, when it was primarily an online bookstore. Jeffrey Bezos named the site after the Amazon River. The original site contained small text and icons, which still informs its most recent design.

6. Twitter

This barely recognizable design was the first concept of co-founder Jack Dorsey back in July 2006. It featured the word "Twttr," which was inspired by Flickr and SMS shortcode (which always includes five characters). Although the interface design has changed at least six times in the last five years, that hasn't deterred its more than 100 million users.

7. MySpace

Launched in August 2003 as a competitor to Friendster, MySpace's original design was pretty bland. When MySpace skyrocketed to popularity between 2005 and 2008, News Corp. bought the social networking site for $580 million. Although it holds the former title of most-visited site on the Internet, MySpace sharply declined in the past few years. The site recently sold to Specific Media and Justin Timberlake for $35 million.

Hacking Cable TV and Networks

This is a post  from  THN one from my list webwatch  author

"I was watching my favorite show on the television and it was just half over when I saw something which was definitely not a part of the show I was watching. My television screen gone blank for a couple of seconds and then what I saw was totally unbelievable for my eyes.
It was my friend ‘Rahul Sasi’ on the television and I was still wondering that how did he interrupted in between a television show like happens in Sci-Fi movies, someone hijacks television or computer to deliver some kind of message or warning. Also like in some horror movies in which sometime ghostly images interrupts between the television and suddenly comes out. Oh my god!
But, nothing happened like that in my case, my friend didn't came out. Just few minutes later I was again redirected to the same show I was watching, only a part of it I missed, but never mind I’ll watch it on the YouTube later. "
