How to Fix Windows 10 Installation Error "Something happend"

Maybe  some of  you  having this issue the Installation required  US  location .. similar to Cortana  to make it enable outside US region..

To fix this error message...

1. Go to Control Panel->Region and Language->Administrative tab->Change system locale->choose English (US).

After Changed Language to EN-US
Restart your PC  and try the setup again

2. Kept trying at the downloader kept failing  Media Creation Tool (Something happened) but became a normal looking error rather than the blue thing.

DELETE  The Folder $Windows.~BT  located on Drive C:  if you can not see this  ..Go to Folder option enable  Show Hidden files..

Redownloaded the downloader and its working fine now.

I think the language might just have taken a while to register on the system, or the old downloader might have been confused by the new language?

3. If you use MOUNT  ISO on Virtual disk  try to  make Windows 10 USB bootable the link is available below..

Direct Download Windows 10 Pro 32bit and 64bit ESD ISO

Microsoft has now finalized Windows 10 Microsoft will first roll out build 10240 to its Windows 10 testers, and the company is now focused on patches and fixes that will also roll out alongside the OS launch. While the RTM process is a milestone for Microsoft, especially almost 20 years to the day the company finalized Windows 95, it’s really just one step in a new model that will see Windows act more like a service. In the future Microsoft will be updating Windows 10 regularly, especially the built-in apps that power most experiences in the operating system.

Unfortunately, no new ISOs have been provided because it wants insiders  and old Windows user to try out the upgrade path. (this what i do).

Upgraded to a new Windows 10 build using the PC Settings Download & Install method, Microsoft uses the ESD file format to deliver install files needed. ESD stands for Electronic Software Delivery, the Windows install.esd file contains the usual Windows install.wim file (WIM = Windows Imaging), encrypted and compressed. Install.wim file in its turn contains everything needed for a complete Windows installation

Fortunately, the ESD files that Microsoft uses to ship these new builds allow anyone to create new ISOs.

In my case Windows 10 have been downloaded to C:\$windows.~WS ... I Created Windows 10 ISO 32 and 64 bit via Media Creation Tool... Notice the Product Key config is Xrml (Digital License).

Actual file of my ISO  size 5.55 Gb

Actual Boot Up.. First Boot From USB

To Upgrade to Windows 10 Make sure you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update which have Activated License Status..

The right method  or to do it is via  Windows upgrade , If you install it via clean install  (REFORMAT)  you will lost the ability to activate the Windows 10 even you ENTER Product Key. Non activated Windows 10 are limited on features you can NOT change or personalize your PC , but it will function normally..

Things you should know:

A Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product keycannot activate Windows 10. Windows 10 uses its own unique product key.

By default, Windows 10 builds are pre-keyed, meaning, you do not have to enter a product key and should not be prompted to enter one as long as you upgraded from an activated Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 license or Windows 10 Preview build.

If you perform a clean install on first attempt, you will have to start over from an activated Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 installation.
If you are prompted to enter a product key, click Do this later and give it a few days, Windows 10 will activate automatically.

Activation servers are being overwhelmedat the moment because of the volume of upgrades, so give it some time if you get an error message such as (0XC004E003, ,0x8007000D, 0x8007232b or 0x8007007B) Windows 10 will eventually activate as long as you upgrade using the appropriate method.

How to Install Windows 10 with Activated Status

As  we know all beta tester user on Windows 10 Insider Technical Preview  have Free Activated Windows 10. RTM build 10240.

If you are Technical Preview and not yet have the latest build TH1  ( this can be installed via regular windows update ) your Windows Insider will expired on July 28 or July 29 and lost the chance to have Free Activated Window 10 Pro.

If you are Windows 7 and Windows 8.1  with License Activated Status   you can still have a chance to have Windows 10 with Activated Status by upgrading it..

Windows Insider Product Key are  Block after  July 28 , that's why you can not Activate your Clean Install ( new reformat ) Windows 10  even you are a Windows Insider member.

Requirements to have Windows 10 Activated

  • Internet Connectivity
  • Windows 7 Service pack 1  and Windows 8.1  ( Must have Activated License Status )
  • Media Creation Tool - Media Creation Tools will download and Create ESD ISO You Can Download it Here
  • USB or DVD  ( for ISO )

How it works?

Microsoft is using Digital License  I you are using activated Windows 7 and 8 you don't need to enter product key, your previous Windows will just upgrade and remains activated..

"Windows 10 handles keys differently. When you upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, the process registers your computers hardware, and qualifying OS with a Microsoft Product Activation Server. The device is then considered a Windows 10 device.
Subsequently anytime you re-install (or clean install) the installation checks with those servers, finds the unique installation ID and produces the validation"

Ok lets start..

1. DOWNLOAD Microsoft Media Creation Tools

Open it  Create  Installation Media for other PC

and select which version you have ... if you are using Windows 7 and 8 32 bit choose 32 bit
and Choose 64 bit if you are 64 bit user..

NOTE :  Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate version is equal to Windows 10 Pro

( Do Not Choose Windows 10  Pro N - this is for Enterprise Version)

But you  can have both 32 and 64 bit like what i did that is less than 6 Gig size

Create ISO file  in case you need back installer you can use ISO to create bootable  USB Windows 10 Installer..

Choose where you want the ISO to be save

If error occurred  go to Drive C:  find the folder  $Windows.~BT   delete all the file inside  .. this folder contains the ESD file for Windows upgrade .. Then restart Media Creation Tool.
or Read my blog post : How to Fix Windows 10 Installation Error "Something happend"

You really need fast internet here.. on my 4Mbps internet speed it takes 3 hours to complete the download.

Wait until  Download Complete   Click Finish..

2. Create Bootable USB  using Rufus software .

3. Insert your USB with Windows 10 installer on your Computer with Activated Windows 7 sp1  or Windows 8.1

Do not choose Check Update ..
click  never or later Click next..
then click Install...

If you are using Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8.0 Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Enterprise editions, or volume license Windows 7 Professional you won't be able to use the free upgrade offer.

Click Do this later
Windows 10 will automatically re-activate within a few days.

Microsoft’s free upgrade offer depends on your PC’s hardware so it may not activate properly if you’ve swapped out hardware inside your PC. You may need to call Microsoft and complete the phone activation process, explaining what happened, if you changed the PC’s hardware after taking advantage of the offer.

Note that the free Windows 10 upgrade (as well as OEM copies of Windows and pre-installed copies of Windows 10) can’t actually be transferred to a separate PC. They’re tied to a single PC’s hardware.

Microsoft will start upgrading Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines to Windows 10

In less than 24 hours, Microsoft will start upgrading Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines to Windows 10. The software giant is preparing for this big release, at 12AM ET on July 29th (9PM PST on July 28th), by pre-loading the final version of Windows 10 on PCs eligible for the upgrade. A number of Windows 7 and Windows 8 users who have registered for the upgrade have started noticing that the full installer files for Windows 10 have been downloaded to C:\$windows.~BT as Microsoft gets ready for release.

In my case Windows 10 have been downloaded to C:\$windows.~WS ... Now I'm creating Windows 10 ISO 32 and 64 bit via media creation tool... Notice the Product Key config is Xrml (Digital License)..

Microsoft will unlock and activate the Windows 10 install at midnight tonight, allowing some Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade. Not everyone will get access to the Windows 10 upgrade initially, though. Microsoft is rolling the upgrade out gradually to compatible systems, and the company is creating a queue to distribute the update in waves.

Windows 10 testers (like me) have already been testing the final bits and they will be the first to receive a Day One patch that Microsoft is developing. The software maker has also been rolling out daily hotfixes to existing testers.
