Google Play Store Update Review App’s Permissions

Google just made a huge change to the way application permissions work on Android devices which has left a potential door open to malicious app developers and hackers.
Google narrows down Android's 145 permissions into 13 broad categories and groups app permissions into 'groups of related permissions', likely for Android users to have an easier time dealing with app permissions.
Unfortunately, the new update has introduced a few potential security and privacy issues, as listed below:
  • hiding permissions behind the group names
  • auto-updating app with no warning for new permissions
According to new update, once a user approves an app’s permissions, he actually approves the whole respective permission groups. For example, if an app want to read your incoming SMS messages, then it requires the “Read SMS messages” permission. But now installing an app, you are actually giving it access to all SMS-related permissions.
The app developer can then include additional permissions from ‘SMS-related permissions Group’, in a future update, which will not trigger any warning before installation.
Google explains, “If you have automatic updates enabled, you won't need to review or accept these permissions as long as they are included in a permissions group you already accepted for that app.
If your Android apps update automatically, then malicious developers can gain access to new dangerous permissions without your knowledge by abusing this mechanism, though a smart user could manually view all permissions in a dropdown before installation, but one out of thousands does that.
Below I have listed some most abused Android app permissions that cyber criminals are exploiting for their personal gain:
  • GPS Location and Network-based Location
  • Read Phone State and Identity
  • Automatically Start at Boot
  • Modify/Delete SD Card Contents
  • Read/Send SMS Messages
  • Read/Modify Contacts
This are what i screenshot

I strongly recommend users to disable automatic updates and verify app permissions manually every time an app wants to update.

The Hacker Behind Apple Malware Ransom Arrested in Russia

A cyber campaign that was targeting iPhone and iPad owners with a sophisticated Ransomware in Australia and New Zealand last month, drawn special attention of online media and security analysts.
Russian Authorities have arrested two young hackers from Moscow for their alleged involvement in compromising Apple ID accounts and then using ‘Apple's Find My iPhone’ service to hold iOS devices for ransom.
A Russian man aged 23 and a teenager aged 17 had been taken into custody in the Southern Administrative District of Moscow for their part in “blocking of Apple devices to extort funds,” claims the press release on the Russian Interior Ministry’s website on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, one of the suspects used phishing websites to trick victims into giving up their Apple ID username and password. The second suspect’s activities are exactly same of the ‘Oleg Pliss attack’.
The first involved gaining access to the victim’s Apple ID by means of the creation of phishing pages, (gaining) unauthorized access to email or using methods of social engineering,” it said. “The second scheme was aimed at attacking other people’s devices to a prearranged account, and to that end at various Internet resources to create ads for lease Apple ID, containing a large amount of media content.
Last month, a number of iPhone and iPad users from Australia and other countries reported that their devices were locked with a message that states "Device hacked by Oleg Pliss," demanding US$100 or euros to restore user control of the device.

It was first assumed that Apple’s cloud storage service, iCloud had been compromised in the Oleg Pliss attack, because the hackers were able to send out notifications via the Find My iPhone feature, while Apple denied that their cloud storage service was not compromised and that the affected users' login details must have been compromised elsewhere.
However researchers said, victims can still recover their devices by resetting their devices in "recovery mode" followed by a restore from a backup by connecting to iTunes, but in process they would lose apps and data stored on the device.
The Russian Ministry said the two suspects were Moscow residents. After searching their apartments police apparently found computer hardware, SIM cards, phones used in “illegal activities”, as well as material on how to hack systems.
One of the suspects also had been convicted of a crime earlier, but in a lower-tech form of extortion such as stealing license plates from neighbors’ cars and selling them back to their owners.
The suspects are expected to be charged with unauthorised access to computer information under Article 272 of the Criminal Code.

Extend your Free WiFi by Spoofing your Mac Address

Free citywide and municipal WiFi is growing faster than ever with new downtown hotspots popping up every day. While these networks provide a great public service, coverage typically extends only a limited distance beyond Main Street. Learn how to find and connect to your local free WiFi networks.

As free internet becomes more and more par for the course, businesses are hard-pressed to offer their clients (or passersby...) free, unlimited WiFi.

  • Obviously, Starbucks, McDonald's, and Malls (to name just three) offer free public WiFi. But maybe you're cappuccino-ed out?
    • Truck stops, car washes, and auto shops offer WiFi to waiting clients.
    • Libraries, city halls, and even parks are starting to offer free WiFi now. It all encourages local citizens to get more involved.
    • Plenty of hotel chains are now starting to jump on the bandwagon. Do a minute of research to find hours of gold.

It's great that coffee shops offer free Wi-Fi to customers, but many are starting to employ time limits to limit how long you spend in their establishments. If you want to hang out longer than allowed, these time limits aren't that hard to bypass.

How  Extend your Free WiFi?

You just need to spoof your MAC address. There are many tools available for free to change your WiFi MAC Address like  Cain and Abel, Mac Makeup, or change your WiFi  MAC manually without any tools. For same Paid WiFi you need to snipped MAC address use Cain and Abel.

Manually Change MAC Addres your Laptop WiFi

1.Go to your WiFi  Network Status.
 Click Properties ,then click configure.

 2. Click the Advanced TAB  Click Network Address or Physical Address ,click  circle , input your NEW MAC  on  VALUE
You can view your MAC Addres by clicking details and you just need to change the LAST 2  Character or 1 value.
My sample here last is 75 I change it 70

After changing your MAC try reconnect and click another Free WiFi Agreement :)

I will update this for Android

UPDATE : For Android  You need a rooted Device  to make this  work.

There Free apps available just search keyword " Wireless Mac Address Changer" on Google Play
Wireless MAC Address Changer
Mac Address Ghost

Root Apps :  http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276

Tapos i install, buksan at pindutin ang "boromir" patch!
Pagkatapos mag patch, i reboot ang cellphone, pag may superSU ka na sa app drawer, rooted ka na. Install na din ng root checker basic sa googleplay para ma verify.

Oops!! di pa gagana yan need mo pa pala ng "busybox"  i download nyo nalang yun

New Apple iOS 8 Randomizes MAC Address while Scanning for WiFi Networks

Apple announced the change during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino last week, revealing that the feature will restrict the information your device will share when it will scan for near-by wi-fi networks. To do this, the device will spoof MAC addresses that it broadcast to the all available wi-fi network when device searches for them.

In iOS 8, Wi-Fi scanning behavior has changed to use random, locally administrated MAC addresses,” Apple notes. This exactly means that “the MAC address used for Wi-Fi scans may not always be the device’s real (universal) address,” Apple explains.

How to make your own Electricity Generating Sneakers

Are you inspired with Angelo Casimiro? Wanna make your own Electricity Generating Sneaker.
Instuctables user ASCAS created this project as a submission to the Google 2014 Science Fair.

ASCAS says, "Here's a little science experiment that will show you a little secret on making insoles that can charge USB devices! The challenge is to make a slip-on insole that can produce enough electricity to charge batteries/USB devices.

 Credits :ASCAS

Parts and Materials:

- Cheap/ Generic USB Powerbank
- Piezoelectric Transducers (6x)
- 1N4007 Rectifier Diodes (4x)
- Hookup Wire (at least 12")
- Old Pair Of Shoes
- Contact Adhesive

Tools & Equipment:

- Digital Multimeter
- Multitool (w/ pliers)
- Rotary Tool

Optional:

- 100nF Mylar Capacitor (for testing)
- Hoop & Loop Fastener (Velcro)
- LED Indicators (for testing)
- Superglue (for fixing wires)
- Smartphone Sport Strap
- 5v Switching Regulator (w/ supercap)
Alternatives: (since not all can afford them)
- PowerBank > Old phone batteries + Recycled 5v Inverter
- Peizo Transducers > A pair of old & outdated earpiece
- Rotary tool > Hot Nail (for melting plastic)
- Multitool > A pair of pliers will do

Step by Step Guide:

1. Measuring Your Sole
Get the size and shape of your shoe's insole then get a pair of heavy-duty shears/snips and carefully cut the PVC material. The plate will act as the primary mount of the piezoelectric discs/elements.
Remember: Thickness matters, you need at least 2-5mm. If your material is too thick, the piezo elements will break due to too much flexing. If your material is too thin, the piezo element won't bend at all thus converting less power.

2. Find And Cut An Ideal Material (Sheet/ Plate)
Now surround the PVC plate with three piezo discs. How do I know where the center is? The "center" that I'm referring to is area where all the pressure is withdrawn by your foot, your sole.
After getting a fix preview of the setup, get a pencil and trace the piezo discs. Finally use your compass to draw smaller circles, about 2mm smaller in radius. The 2mm spacing will act as your margin.
What material should I use?
Based on my design, I needed a plate that is 2-5mm thick, lightweight, stiff and can endure a lot of flexing. Metals are too stiff while carbon fiber is too thin. After playing around with a bunch of materials, I've found out that PVC fits best in my application.
Were did you get the PVC material?
PVC materials are all around us. You can find them in your local hardware store but in the form of pipes. I got mine from our excess supply of PVC pipes when our house was built. Recycling means free $$$ for me! :)

 3.Grinding Holes On PVC Pads
In this step, grinding is required to bore/drill round holes. Since I don't have large drill bits (as large as the marked area), I've thought of way to cleanly cut the holes and that's by using my handy rotary tool.
If you don't have a rotary tool, you can still cleanly cut the plastic by doing it "the old fashioned way," by heating an iron nail and melting the plastic.

4.Gluing The Piezoelectric Elements
These piezo discs must endure a lot of flexing since you'll be stepping on them repeatedly! Never use superglue, if you do, the moment you step on your insole the piezo discs will snap off the PVC pad. Instead, use those quick setting "contact adhesives." Their rubbery characteristic makes them ideal for this project since they stretch whenever they are bent.

5. Soldering The Piezos Together

Solder all piezo elements together in parallel. Don't solder them in series because you'll need more current than voltage and those piezoelectric discs will cancel each other's power output when not actuated at the same time.
Piezo elements produce AC currents. Unlike DC currents, you can't just tap in the line. since AC currents are always alternating polarities. Just like power generators, whether it may be solar or petrol, you can't just tap directly to the powerlines without aligning the AC wave's phase otherwise the generator will cancel each other. (Ex. Negative meets Positive - Positive meets Negative). This infers that parallel works best for our project.

Improvements:
Through this process of experimentation, I've realized that even if they are hooked in parallel the piezoelectric elements can still cancel each other's output off (when not actuated simultaneously). This leads to conclusion that you'll need to add one bridge diode per piezo element/ disc.

 6. Building A Bridge Diode
Piezoelectric elements produce AC when subjected to mechanical stress. Unfortunately, USB devices need DC and not-AC. A bridge diode is required to filter and convert AC to DC.
Schematic:
Just follow the schematic diagram above. Solder the piezo discs to your bridge diode. Remember AC has no polarity, you can invert the wires either way. The load (shown as a resistor) represents your appliance.
Recycling:
CFL bulbs contain electronic ballasts, each ballast contains at least six to eight rectifier diodes. Those diodes are compatible with our project. Please be careful in disassembling CFL bulbs, I'm not liable if any of you get injured.

 7. Adding Foams Pushers
Now glue small a small piece of foam on the very center of each piezo disc. These foams will act as pushers. These foams will squeeze the piezo discs inwards (like sandwiches) while walking.

 8.Observation And Testing
Finally, we are going to test the validity of or theory. Start by getting a digital-tester and switch it to the 2 digit DC range. Remember, piezo elements produce a short burst of current the moment you push them so adding a 100nF capacitor should make the readings much more readable.
My volt meter displayed:
Pressing By Hand = 15.03 volts (2mA)
Walking By Foot = 18.53 volts (5mA)
Running By Foot = 27.89 volts (11mA)

 9. Installing the Insole
Slip the insole generator between the shoe and the insole.

 10. Adding a Powerbank + Soldering
The insole generator peaks a voltage of 28 volts, the current may be small but the voltage is enough to damage the powerbank's 5v charger (circuitry). I won't be using the 7805 since it's quite old and inefficient. Right now, my insole generator is soldered directly to my powerbank's lithium battery. It works but it's not completely not safe. This is just a prototype so expect another Instructable tutorial/ write-up next week.

UPDATE: Say goodbye to the huge bulging powerbanks! I have a newer version of the project, the powerbank is now integrated with the insole. I also added a charge collector circuit.
