Things to Remember When Applying for Credit Online
We all need a little extra money sometimes, and today there are more options than ever before. One popular way is to take out short term loans. Getting quick cash once meant begging from a bank or pawning something you own, but these days we have better alternatives such as online payday loans where anyone with a job and a bank account can get the cash they need 24/7.
Here are some things to consider before you fill out that application.
Be Security and Safety Conscious
The first thing to keep in mind is the safety of your personal and financial information. There are more scammers and hackers out there than most people realize, and the first line of defense in cyber security is the end user’s common sense. Avoid applying for loans, or doing any form of internet banking over public wi-fi. Always assume that anything you show or type, while on a public connection, is being viewed by a hacker. They would love to get their hands on all that personal information. Also, make sure your internet connection is safe and secure, and that all your virus and malware protection is running and up to date.
Another thing to do is check to see if the site you are applying on is legit and safe. Hackers will often hijack web traffic and send unwitting customers to phishing websites that look nearly 100% official. Make sure you look for the signs of a fake site. Check the https of any site you go to where you are required to log in. Legitimate sites will have a padlock in the far left of the address bar. Make sure everything is spelled correctly in the web address. Phishing sites are often use subtle misspellings for their sites that are easy for most people to overlook. Their phishing sites will use words like paypol instead of paypal or wallmart instead of walmart.
Be Honest
It might be tempting to fudge some numbers to try and get more money or a lower interest rate, but DON’T DO IT! It is illegal to give false information on credit applications and is considered fraud. The penalties are steep with jail sentences up to 30 years and fines of around one million dollars – for each offense.
Shop Around
Don’t go for the first online credit offer you find, no matter how slick the sales pitch. There are more lenders out there than you can shake a stick at. Each one will have their pros and cons, and different terms and policies can have some serious implications for your bank account and your credit score.
What are the interest rates? Find the lenders who offer the lowest interest rates. This can save you hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on the size of your loan. Read over their repayment policies. Some places charge penalties and fees for early repayment.
Also, find out what their policy is for late payments. It's always a good idea to pay on time, but bad things happen, and a person can come up short or else simply forget. Some online lenders have rather draconian penalties when it comes to late payments that amount to interest rates in the triple or even quadruple digits! Make sure the one you borrow money from isn’t one of them.
Borrow Only What You Can Pay Back
You know your personal finances and obligations better than anyone else, so be honest with yourself. We all want that bigger TV, the nicer car, or that dream Caribbean vacation, but none of it is worth it if we ruin ourselves financially or have to declare bankruptcy. The best way to keep this from happening is only to take what you need, and no more.
Conclusion
There are several different reasons to apply for credit online. It could be a sudden unexpected demand or emergency, like an auto repair or sick pet, or maybe it’s just time to splurge a little and get that one particular thing you’ve had an eye on for a while. Whatever the reason, don’t go in blindly. There will always be strings attached, so make sure you don’t forego sound judgment for the lure of easy money.

Twitter has permanently suspended Milo Yiannopoulos after Leslie Jones Ghostbusters abuse
Twitter has permanently suspended the account of Breitbart tech blog editor Milo Yiannopoulos, a day after the infamous internet troll helped incite his followers to send a torrent of racist abuse to Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones.
The expulsion of Yiannopoulos, who counted more than 300,000 followers on the service, comes just one day after he urged on a hateful mob that harassed ‘Ghostbusters’ actress Leslie Jones to the point that she quit Twitter.

Jones received a barrage sexist and racist messages from users, including fake messages made to look like they came from her account. With little way to fight back, she decided to quit the service on Monday “with tears and a very sad heart.”
When Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey responded to one of Jones’ tweets:
Milo then lost his verification badge (check logo), which Twitter typically gives to members of the media and celebrities, in January, which only seemed to amp up his interest in offending Twitter’s management and many who use the service.
Twitter confirmed that Yiannopoulos would be kept off its service for good in the future, telling BuzzFeed that it would find any new account he creates in the future, and suspend it.
In a statement, Twitter alluded about to the abuse directed at Leslie Jones, but didn't refer to Yiannopoulos directly. "People should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter," the statement reads. "But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others. Over the past 48 hours in particular, we've seen an uptick in the number of accounts violating these policies and have taken enforcement actions against these accounts, ranging from warnings that also require the deletion of Tweets violating our policies to permanent suspension."
U.S. Internet giants Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc., Google and Microsoft Corp. pledged to tackle online hate speech in less than 24 hours as part of a joint commitment with the European Union to combat the use of social media by terrorists.

The Ocean Cleanup is testing a prototype that could lead to a barrier 62 miles long
The Ocean Cleanup is testing what may be both the simplest and the most ambitious. It just launched a 328 foot-long prototype floating barrier that will collect trash floating in the North Sea. If it can survive the rough conditions of those waters, the plan is to deploy a 62 mile-long (!) barrier in the Pacific Ocean and reduce the size of the notorious Great Pacific Garbage Patch -- the hope is to halve the size of the trash field in 10 years.
A nonprofit foundation based in the Netherlands has launched a prototype for one of the most ambitious sea-cleaning projects yet. The innovative idea is a floating barrier that will gather the mass of plastic bits from bottles, bags, fishing nets and other trash that sloshes around in the oceans, growing every year. Once deployed, the extremely long barrier could eliminate the need for an army of boats to haul our garbage back to shore.
The 100-meter-long prototype was towed out to the North Sea today, where The Ocean Cleanup foundation plans to perform a yearlong series of tests. If the long boom succeeds, the group plans to deploy a full-scale, 100-kilometer-long version between Hawaii and the U.S. west coast in 2020, a section of the Pacific Ocean that has one of the densest deposits of plastic worldwide. “This is a big step toward cleaner oceans,” says Allard van Hoeken, chief operating officer of The Ocean Cleanup. “We’ve done years of computer modeling and successful simulations, and now we’re ready to test our technology in real ocean conditions.”
Whether or not it's an ideal solution is up for debate. The 6.6 foot-deep design shouldn't interfere with wildlife (unlike existing nets) and is intended to last through vicious storms. However, the University of Hawaii's Jeffrey Drazen warns Scientific American that a massive barrier like this could mess with the distribution of animals in the region. Also, the surface pollution is just one part of a larger problem. We'll only truly get rid of ocean debris when we avoid putting it there in the first place. Biodegradable materials and better recycling may ultimately be the key.

This 19-Year-Old Entrepreneur Lost $46,000 Because Google AdSense Says He Didn't Follow Their Rules
Idris Sami is a 19-year-old French-Moroccan entrepreneur who set up a website that lets people text their friends for free. Don't have a phone, or want to avoid mobile data charges? No problem. MesTextos lets French-speakers text their friends from the website. MesTextos isn't going to threaten WhatsApp anytime soon, but in Europe and the Middle East, where alternative messaging services are more popular, free texting is a nice little niche to occupy.
MesTextos is like Magtext.com in the Philippines, and until the beginning of 2013 MesTextos.com was doing very well indeed.
Sami was running Google's AdSense advertising system on his site. It allows website publishers to display search ads powered by Google and take a cut of the revenues.
By December 2013 so many people were clicking on MesTextos' ads that Sami's Google account hit $46,000.
But then he learned that if you're an AdSense partner and you don't run ads on your site exactly the way Google wants, the search giant will punish you.
Banned By Google
Google cancelled Sami's account and returned all the money he had earned to his advertisers.
He is banned from Google's ad programs until further notice.
GOOGLE ADSENSE
Idris Sami's Google Adsense revenue account.
All $46,000 of it.
Sami is furious about the money he earned and then lost. Although this is an extreme example — a huge portion of Google's client base consists of individual publishers making only a few hundred dollars a month — it does typify one of the frustrations Google's clients have dealing with the company.
Emails From Google Praised The Site
In an email Google sent to Sami, Google says MesTextos was incentivizing or forcing people to click on ads to use the site, which is against the rules; Sami denies that. He says two different Google sales staff praised his revenue-generating efforts and, in separate emails, offered to help optimize his site to improve its performance. He says he wasn't warned there was something wrong with his site until it was too late.
Google declined to comment on Sami specifically, but a spokesperson told Business Insider:
'Nous Avons Desactive Votre Compte Google AdSense' :Google Banned Sami for incentivizing or instracting users to click oh his site.
On Jan 28, Sami received a third email, also in French: "We have deactivated your Google AdSense account ... your account block is final, we have blocked payment on your corresponding balance.")
Sami says he begged and pleaded with Google but that he cannot figure out what Google thinks is wrong with his site. It is notable that Sami's site currently carries a large ad that requires a click before you can use it — the exact thing Google said was wrong with the site in the first place. Sami says that ad, for another of his sites, was placed there by him only after Google cut him off and his ad revenue declined.
On the one hand it's a straightforward case: Google publishes its rules, and Sami allegedly broke them. But, as we've noted before, Google has a PR problem here: AdSense can be complicated. The basic rules are 2,500 words long. It's a fairly nontransparent company, and it doesn't break down where its ad revenue comes from in any detail. And because it is so massive, and so many companies in the online ad ecosystem are entirely dependent on it, Google becomes a ripe target for rumors and complaints.
Google is also constrained in explaining publicly how it detects bad behavior and click fraud on the web, because doing so would help those creating the fraud. So its bans often feel secretive or arbitrary to publishers. Publishers may not even know that their sites are being used as pivot points for fake traffic.
That's not much comfort to Sami. He says he is working with a lawyer to demand from Google the money he believes he earned.
Google is being sued in the U.S. over allegations that it suddenly and without explanation withholds ad money from website publishers once their sites become successful. And the company is the subject of an infamous, and obviously fake, conspiracy theory that publishers who make $5,000 or more per month are banned from the system right before their checks are paid. (The theory has a giant hole in it — Google collects revenues only when it delivers those ads, so banning successful sites would actually make Google poorer.) This theory has been making the rounds for years.
Google's Paris HQ raided as part of a tax fraud investigation early in the morning (May 24, 2016). Google is accused of owing €1.6bn ($1.8bn; £1.3bn) in unpaid taxes. The tax arrangements of international companies have come under close scrutiny recently.
Several have been accused of using legal methods to minimise their tax bills.

A Facebook “Lockdown” when Google was preparing to launch their Google Plus
A new book written by a former Facebook employee tells us an untold story from the time when Google was preparing to launch their Google Plus social network. Some excerpts from the book have been published by Vanity Fair.
Antonio Garcia-Martinez is an ex-Facebook employee all set to the uncover his new book Chaos Monkeys: Inside the Silicon Valley money machine.
“In June 2011, Google launched an obvious Facebook copy called Google Plus. Obnoxiously wired into other Google products like Gmail and YouTube, it was meant to join all users of Google services into one online identity, much as Facebook did for the Internet as a whole” — Antonio Garcia-Martinez penned down.
Google’s hard work and determination to make it big this time shook Zuckerberg’s confidence, whose company Facebook was controlling almost all of our social lives by that time.
“Given you had a Google Plus sign-up button practically everywhere in your Google user experience, the possibility of its network growing exponentially was very real indeed”. Antonio wrote that Google Plus offered a better photo sharing tool than Facebook and it was in some ways, better than Facebook.
A “lockdown” process was initiated by Zuckerberg as soon as news about the launch of Google Plus was omnipresent in the air at the Facebook headquarter.
“We received an e-mail at 1:45 P.M. the day Google Plus launched, instructing us to gather around the Aquarium, the glass-walled cube that was Zuck’s throne room. Actually, it technically instructed us to gather around the Lockdown sign. This was a neon sign bolted to the upper reaches of the Aquarium, above the cube of glass, almost like the NO VACANCY sign on a highway motel. By the time the company had gathered itself around, that sign was illuminated, tipping us off to what was coming.”
Mark’s speech, delivered like “some poor employee undergoing a withering product review”, was a hint towards a possible head-on with the new lion in the jungle. The main focus of the talk was that the user experience, site performance and the bar of reliability would have to be raised. Clearly, Facebook did succeed and most of us have a Plus profile only because we have a Google account. Google Plus just exists, it doesn’t control our lives much like Facebook does.
You can take a look at the excerpts published by Vanity Fair.

'DOTA Boy' passed the May 2016 Certified Public Accountant
ILOCOS NORTE - Some say that addiction to online video games cuts students' interest in school. But 22-year-old Renz Fernandez has proven this wrong.
Fernandez, who hails from Barangay 23, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, is among the 2,967 people who passed the May 2016 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure Examination.
Admittedly an online video game addict, Fernandez said he usually spent an average of 3 to 4 hours -- at times, 12 hours -- playing DOTA before doing his assignments or reviewing for exams during his days at the Divine World College of Laoag.
Even when he was already reviewing for his board exam, he still had time for DOTA, he said.
According to Fernandez, DOTA served as his stress reliever. He said the video game helped him do school work more enjoyably and without feeling drained.
He added he found it unhealthy focusing too much on studies.
Fernandez, who is fondly called "DOTA boy" by his family and friends, stressed that students need to find balance between studies and leisure. Time management is the key, he said.
"Hindi naman maganda kung puro studies, kung puro laro. Dapat sakto lang," he said.
I also remembered a girl who finance his own colleges by streaming Online Games.

Google's Paris HQ raided as part of a tax fraud investigation
Reports say about 100 tax officials entered Google's offices in central Paris early in the morning (May 24).
Google has confirmed the raid, which was first reported by the Le Parisien newspaper (link in French).
Police sources confirmed the raid. Google denies wrongdoing. In a statement today it said: "We comply with French law and are co-operating fully with the authorities to answer their questions."
Google is accused of owing €1.6bn ($1.8bn; £1.3bn) in unpaid taxes.
The tax arrangements of international companies have come under close scrutiny recently.
Several have been accused of using legal methods to minimise their tax bills.
In Google's case, its tax structure allows it to pay tax in the Republic of Ireland, even when sales appear to relate to the UK.
Since 2009 to 2015 Google pay from Ireland , and then Google change it to Google Singapore co LTD, since then Google payment processing delayed. ( Right Now, Google AdSense Payment for May 21 - 22 are delayed )
In January, it struck a deal with UK tax authorities to pay an extra £130m in tax for the period from 2005, but that deal was heavily criticised.
The rules on "country-by-country reporting" would affect multinational firms with more than €750m in sales.
The UK Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said the £130m settlement "seems disproportionately small", compared with the size of its UK business.
Europe's competition authorities have been examining whether some deals struck by big companies with national tax authorities amount to illegal state aid.
In April, the EU unveiled plans to force large companies to disclose more about their tax affairs.
They will have to declare publicly how much tax they pay in each EU country as well as any activities carried out in specific tax havens.
Google will indeed have to work fast in Europe now. Apart from the raid and a potentially massive tax bill, it’s facing two anti-trust cases from the European Commission related to its local search results and its Android mobile operating system.
It’s been reported that the commission could seek as much as €3 billion in fines (source : reuters) in the search case, and that the bill will be handed over in the coming weeks. A fine of that magnitude would be three times as large as the biggest fine ever levied by the EU—a €1.1 billion penalty against Intel in 2009.
The Android anti-trust case is an even bigger worry for Google, because it strikes directly at its mobile monetization model, a key growth area for the firm. Those charges were just laid on the tech giant last month; the fines there could also be into the billions. (source: quartz )

Thai students caught using spy cameras, smartwatches to cheat on medicine exam
A top Thai medical college has caught students using spy cameras linked to smartwatches to cheat during exams in what some social media users have compared to a plot straight out of a Mission: Impossible movie.
Arthit Ourairat, the rector of Rangsit University, posted pictures of the hi-tech cheating equipment on his Facebook page, announcing that the entrance exam in question had been cancelled after the plot was discovered.
Three students used glasses with wireless cameras embedded in their frames to transmit images to a group of as yet unnamed people, who then sent the answers to the smartwatches.

Mr Arthit said the trio had paid 800,000 baht ($31,000) each to the tutor group for the equipment and the answers.
"The team did it in real-time," Mr Arthit wrote.
Thailand's Channel 3 news reported that the students had been blacklisted.
His original post went viral, with many either praising the students for their ingenuity or condemning them for cheating.

"If they had passed and graduated, we might have had illegal doctors working for us," wrote one Facebook user.
Others were more impressed. "Cool ... like Hollywood or Mission: Impossible," another user wrote.
Medical degrees are highly sought after in Thailand, where doctors can make small fortunes in a private sector that has become one of the world's treatment hubs.
Despite more than a decade of impressive economic growth, Thailand's education system is in dire need of reform with rote learning, long hours and poor international test scores still commonplace.
In the 2014 PISA rankings, which measures global educational standards, Thai students performed below the global average and much worse than those from poorer Vietnam in subjects like maths and science.
Last year, the World Bank said improving poor quality education was the most important step the kingdom could take to securing a better future, with one third of Thai 15-year-olds "functionally illiterate" — lacking the basic reading skills to manage their lives in the modern world.
Critics say the kingdom's high corruption levels and ongoing political instability has made deep-seated education reforms impossible over the last decade.
