The New Nokia 6 Smartphone Sold Within Minutes

The new Nokia 6 smartphone which went on sale in China at around $245 has sold within minutes.
The exclusive retailer, JD.com, has seen an unprecedented demand for Nokia’s new device. It received over a million registrations for the flash sale on Thursday. The exact number of units sold wasn’t revealed, and the date of the next flash sale has yet to be announced.

The retailer was told not to ship the device anywhere outside the country.

Nokia’s new handset hasn’t been released in the US market, and it is still not clear if it will be.
The new phone features 64GB of internal memory, a 16MP rear-facing camera and the 8MP selfie and video chats camera.

The Finnish firm plans to unveil seven more devices this year at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, including the flagship Nokia P1 device. The P1 128GB model is expected to be sold for at least $800, while the 256GB version might have a price tag of around $950.

In December Nokia said it plans to “stay true to the Nokia brand.”

“The brand is known for simplicity, ease of use, reliability, and quality. These are the elements that we will deliver together with amazing industrial design,” Nokia’s CEO of HMD global Arto Nummela said.

In 2013, Nokia sold its mobile division for nearly $7.2 billion to Microsoft. Under the deal, Nokia was prohibited from using its brand name on handsets until the end of 2016.

Microsoft sold the Nokia brand to HMD Global and Foxconn for $350 million after the company saw a 46 percent drop in phone revenue in the last quarter.

Philippine government has blocked adult websites

The Philippine government has blocked Internet users from accessing adult websites, just 10 days after a popular porn site found Filipinos to have spent the longest time watching adult content for the third straight year.

As of Saturday, access to known porn sites such as pornhub.com and xvideos.com had been forbidden, either through mobile phones or laptops. Users were redirected to a page notifying them of such a ban.
“This website has been ordered blocked under authority of the Philippine government pursuant to Republic Act 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law,” the notice on the websites read.

The ban comes just days after Filipinos topped for the third straight year pornhub.com’s study of its users viewing behavior. Filipinos spent an average of 12 minutes and 45 seconds on the adult website, almost two minutes longer than a South African, which came in second.
Filipinos had topped the study since 2014.

As of writing, it is yet to be known if the two adult websites have violated any provision of the anti-child pornography law. Under this law, they are prohibited to host any child pornography content on their site.
Should such content find its way in their site, they are required within seven days to “report the presence of child pornography, as well as the particulars the person maintaining, hosting, distributing or in any manner contributing to such Internet address, to the proper authorities.

They are also ordered to “preserve such evidence for purposes of investigation and prosecution by relevant authorities.”

In 2014, the National Telecommunications Commission issued a memorandum circular ordering Internet service providers to ban access to sites with child pornography materials.

ePLDT launches visitor management system for faster, easier, and safer reception

Companies that receive many guests face the challenge of monitoring and tracking the people going in and out of their premises. This can be inconvenient to receptionists, employees, and even to visitors especially when traditional recording is used.
ePLDT, Inc., with its continuing initiative to deliver best-in-class digital business solutions, is proud to announce its Enhanced Visitor Experience (EVE) app, a fully digital and interactive visitor registration system designed to help companies process incoming and outgoing traffic.
According to Nico Alcoseba, Vice President and Head of PLDT’s Disruptive Business Group, the app provides a window to what kind of culture exists beyond the reception area.
“With EVE, companies can provide an interactive visitor experience to people coming to the office from the moment they first logged in to the time their host is ready to accommodate them,” Alcoseba said. “It’s a solution that guests, receptionists, and employees will find simple and enjoyable.”
EVE offers a digital end-to-end visitor-reception-host interface system through an automated visitor information recording and extraction.
“EVE addresses real-life enterprise challenges ranging from long queues, mismanagement of guest information when using pen and paper, inaccurate guest reports, and disorganized guest-host relations,” Alcoseba emphasized.
With EVE, guests simply have to register on the app using the tablet at the front desk and select the person to visit. Once done, the host will be notified via e-mail that his or her guest has already arrived. This information is recorded in the system and may be referred for future use. Storage is not a problem since users can opt to use the cloud.
“This feature can help eliminate long queues at the reception area since returning visitors already have information stored,” said Alcoseba.
In addition, the interface is highly customizable and can display a company’s own preferred and unique design.

Additional security
Apart from making reception easier, the app also adds a layer of security since it keeps track of visitor activity. EVE also has the ability to determine who, exactly, is at your site at a given time. Having these records helps in creating an electronic "paper trail" of sorts, enabling administrators to view who is on-site, what time he or she arrived, where he or she is going and more.
EVE is available via Standard or Premium subscriptions. The latter provides the advantage to send SMS notifications to the host on top of the e-mail alert, a free seven-inch tablet, and a badge printer.
Alcoseba concludes, “Having EVE can leave visitors a good first digital impression since this is usually equated to being up-to-date when it comes to technology. We believe that EVE can perfectly complement a company who is undergoing digital transformation.”
ePLDT is offering a 30-day free trial of EVE. For more information, please visit www.epldt.com/solutions/digital-engagement/eve.
