Microsoft Releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10547 to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10547 to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. As usual, this build includes bug fixes and improvements over Build 10532 and also includes some new things for you to try and send us feedback on what you see.

Here's what’s new in this build:

Improvements to Start: The default for tile groups on Start is to have 3 columns of medium sized tiles, but we heard feedback from many Insiders who wanted the ability to have a 4th column as well, so they could have two wide or large sized tiles side by side in a group. In this build, you can enable this by going to the Settings app > Personalization > Start and enabling “Show more tiles”. And for the Insiders that want more than 512 tiles on Start; we now support up to 2048. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Improvements to Tablet mode: When in Tablet mode, from Task View you can now snap apps to left and right, replace a previously snapped app with another (teeter) and swipe down to close an app.

Many app updates: We’ve released many updates to our apps in Windows 10. For example – we’ve updated the Photos app to introduce a folder view that makes it easy for you to see your OneDrive and PC folders. The Xbox app has also received a pretty big update – you can read about it here from Xbox Wire. And many other apps such as Groove, Mail and Calendar and Maps have also received updates. Make sure to check the Store for updates, and send us feedback on these updated apps.

Other improvements: You can now turn off the Windows background picture in the sign-in screen if you want by going to the Settings app > Personalization > Lock screen and turning off “Show Windows background picture on the sign-in screen”.

Object RTC in Microsoft Edge: For developers, this build also includes a preview of Object RTC in Microsoft Edge. The ORTC APIs enable real-time audio and video communications directly inside Microsoft Edge without the need to install any plugins. You can learn more about how ORTC will work with Skype and Skype for Business over at the Skype blog, and developers can learn more about using these APIs at the Microsoft Edge Dev Blog.
Text input panel improvements: The text input panel now expands as you write to provide more space in Latin languages. The text input panel also no longer opens automatically when you are not in tablet mode or have an external Surface keyboard attached. Additional punctuation support has been added to the suggestions bar to make entering punctuation characters easier. Lastly, improvements have been made to help the suggestions be more relevant.

Here are some things we have fixed:

  • We have fixed a lot of the underlying causes of the critical error dialog Insiders were seeing with Start. And search should work more consistently now when interacting with Start.
  • The notification icon for Action Center should no longer light up even though there weren’t any new notifications.
  • We fixed an issue where the Battery fly-out text was truncated in certain languages.
  • When choosing background shuffle, we’ve enabled the ability to shuffle backgrounds randomly instead of the order they appear in the folder.
  • You can now use Cortana with local accounts as well as with a Microsoft account.
  • We have fixed several issues with audio – including issues specific affecting Realtek audio devices.

Known issues:

  • Windows Store apps may not update automatically. To receive app updates, open the Store, click on your profile picture at the top right, choose “Download and updates” and check for updates manually.
  • Using Notepad.exe from the command line to open files when using only a file name, such as ‘file.txt’, will fail with a permissions error. This will be fixed in a future build, but this can be worked around by using a full or partial path, such as ‘.\file.txt’, or using File->Open options in the UI.
  • Clicking on the system icons in the notification area quickly can result in Windows Shell blocking the launch of fly-outs like Audio, Networking, etc. This can be resolved by rebooting your PC.
  • Languages packs are being published, but will be rolling out to the update servers throughout the day.
  • You will see a warning message in the Settings app > Update & Security > Windows Update regarding preview builds. Don’t worry about this - It is safe to ignore for now. We’re adding some new functionality to help you diagnose what’s going on if a new build isn’t getting to you, but it’s not fully implemented yet.

New forum topic for Windows Insiders who are gamers

For Windows Insiders who are gamers – we went live with the “Gaming on Insider Preview” topic in the Windows Insider forum. This new forum topic is the best place for Windows Insiders to get support for gaming-related issues with Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. It’s also a place for Windows Insiders to have discussions with other gamers too. In addition to our regular forum support staff, we’ll have engineers with gaming expertise on standby to assist in these forums, as well as some support staff from our partners, such as Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA, so feel free to stop by these new areas of the forum and let us know how you’re feeling about your gaming experience on Windows 10. For Xbox Live related features and games - you can also find communities to discuss those games at forums.xbox.com.
As always, keep sending us feedback via the Windows Feedback app!
Thanks,

A Lawsuit filed by Segway hoverboard patent againts Hovertrax and Solowheel

This year has seen Inventist's Hovertrax grow into one of the most prominent and successful rideables — but is that success coming at the expense of the Segway? . A lawsuit filed by Segway Inc in a Delaware district court on Friday alleges that both the Hovertrax and the Solowheel willfully violate Segway's existing patents. As recompense, Segway seeks damages, attorney fees and a permanent injunction preventing Inventist from selling any of the infringing products. If the suit is successful, it could stop Inventist's latest product in its tracks.

Inventist's Hovertrax has attracted a celebrity following in recent months, spotted under celebrities from Jamie Foxx to Justin Bieber. Significantly cheaper than any Segway models to date, it has reached a much broader audience than its predecessor. At the same time, the Hovertrax has often been described in the press as a "Segway without a pole" or in similar terms.

"BALANCING VEHICLES AND METHODS FOR TRANSPORTING INDIVIDUALS OVER GROUND."

image from mashable

The new suit names a number of related patents, but pays special attention to US Patent 6,302,230, which covers the Segway's unique method of transportation, "particularly to balancing vehicles and methods for transporting individuals over ground having a surface that may be irregular." According to the complaint, "Inventist has knowledge of the ‘230 patent or has acted with willful blindness to its existence." Similar claims are made for US Patent No. 6,651,763, US Patent No. 7,023,330, US Patent No. 7,275,607, and US Patent No. 7,479,872.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Inventist also has its own patent for the two-footed control method for the Hovertrax, and has sued a number of imitators based on the filing. The Segway claim focuses more on the balance-monitoring system; it's still unclear whether Inventist will be able to use its preexisting patent in mounting a defense.

How To Fix Windows 10 Pro Test Mode build 10240 Watermark

How to remove Windows 10 Pro Test Mode build 10240 Watermark

1. Open elevated command prompt. ( right click windows start open cmd admin )
2. Enter this command.

Code:
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING off

3. Reboot your pc...

EXPLANATION
Windows since Windows , does not allow unsigned or test-signed kernel mode code (drivers) to be loaded at all.

In order for developers of drivers to be able to properly develop the driver, they need to rapidly load different versions of it into windows. This would require them to get each version signed by Microsoft. That's not reasonable, so Microsoft added the ability to allow loading of test-signed drivers through the use of "Test Mode".

2nd reason ... you upgrade from Home Windows Version or Basic

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10536 Release in Fast ring

We’re rolling out Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10536 right now to Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. You may have noticed it’s taken us a little longer than we would have liked to get a new build out to you – please read my post from earlier this week on the delay. I am happy to say this build has progressed through all our internal rings and now is ready for Windows Insiders.

Insiders updating from Build 10512 will need to update their devices twice. You will see Build 10514 and Build 10536.1000. Run these updates. After these updates are installed, you’ll receive another update which will be Build 10536.1004. This process will take a bit more time than usual but this update has all the important fixes for Build 10536 so you will want to make sure you take BOTH updates. If you don’t have a problem going back to Windows Phone 8.1, you can update directly to this build (10536.1004).
Here are some of the improvements we’ve made since the last build:
  • Insider Hub is now included again!
  • Mobile hotspot functionality has been fixed.
  • Voice input has been updated to add support for Japanese and English (India) speech recognition.
  • Single hop updates are again available from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview for all devices.
  • Two-factor authentication is fixed when setting up a device for both text and phone authentication.
  • Start screen will successfully load instead of failing with “Loading …” displayed in a loop until device was rebooted. (We are still tracking down an issue were it may show “Loading …” for a few seconds.)
  • Quite Hours\Do Not Disturb has been fixed.
  • Delay in showing date and time on Lock screen has been improved.
  • Pinch and zoom in Maps now works as expected.
Updated Photos app: The Photos app has been updated to include features you have been asking for to help you do more with your photos. This update introduces a folder view that makes it easy for you to see your OneDrive and PC folders in the Photos app. On your phone, you can also see folders on your SD card.

This update also brings faster photo viewing and context menus. Specifically, for phones, zoom and panning is faster, and we’ve introduced favorites. Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Photos app from the Store to see all these improvements on your phone (version 15.9).

This update hasn’t yet rolled out for PCs but will roll out shortly.
One-handed mode: When we introduced one-handed mode for larger phones, we heard feedback saying many Insiders would like it even on smaller devices. In this build, we have also enabled the ability to use one-handed mode on all phones which can be enabled by pressing and holding the Start button. When you do this, your screen will slide down so you can reach items at the top of your screen.

To slide the screen back up, tap the black space at the top of the screen, or press and hold the Start button again. One-handed use will also naturally time out after several seconds and return to your regular view. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
Share your feedback: Also as we have previously announced on the Windows Insider Preview build 10527 for PC, you can now share your feedback submitted through the Windows Feedback app.

Here are a few known issues for you to take note of for this build:
  • After rebooting your phone, you won’t see notifications, such as new messages, until you unlock your phone. After that, you should see notifications for new messages just fine.
  • “zStorage” appears in the Settings app under System and clicking on it causes the Settings app to crash.
  • Camera upload to OneDrive may not be enabled based on prior settings. To fix this, make sure you are running the latest version of OneDrive by opening the top left navigation bar, then settings on the right to verify that camera upload is turned on and you have the latest app (version 17.2).
  • Insiders will not be able to move from Slow to Fast rings temporarily; we are working on a fix but in the interim to move a device from Slow to Fast you will need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to first start on Windows Phone 8.1 and opt directly into the Fast ring.
  • Additional languages for speech and keyboards won’t be available until tomorrow (9/15) and will error if you try to download. If you already have languages for speech and keyboards downloaded to your phone prior to upgrading, they will remain and available to use.
We also wanted to talk a little bit about Lumia 1020 camera features on Windows 10. Owners of the Lumia 1020 love using their phone’s amazing camera to capture high-fidelity photos and videos. If you recently upgraded your Lumia 1020 to a Windows 10 Insider Preview build, you might have been disappointed that your camera wasn’t working like you expect. Many of the Lumia 1020’s camera features, like 41MP capture and DNG files, only work with the Lumia Camera app. While the app works with Windows 10 Mobile, it won’t be available for download from the Store until later this fall.
To get all your Lumia 1020 camera features back, you need the Lumia Camera app installed on your phone. The easy solution is to wait until the app is available in the Store. If you don’t want to wait, you need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to return to Windows Phone 8.1 in order to get the app back.
Note: These issues only affect the Lumia 1020. If you have a different Lumia phone, the default Windows Camera app already supports all Lumia features except Living Images, which are coming soon to the Lumia phones that have them today!
Thanks for putting up with this temporary loss of functionality on Lumia 1020 devices.
Remember to keep checking the Store and grab the latest app updates from there too and be sure to keep sending in your feedback via the Windows Feedback app!

Star Wars’ BB-8 Droid by Sphero

If you’re like me, you’ve watched each of the trailers and teaser trailers for The Force Awakens 78 times already, which means you already know who BB-8 is. But just to help refresh your memory, BB-8 is the roly-poly droid that looks a bit like a soccer ball with a hat.

BB-8 by Sphero is the newest addition to the cast of Star Wars characters. For $150 this is the droid you're looking for.

How he works
The big to-do about BB-8, besides his ridiculously cute shape, is how his head stays stationary above his rolling body. In fact, when The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams rolled BB-8 on stage at the Star Wars Celebration in July, the Internet erupted with questions about how the droid’s head stayed put.

It turns out that BB-8’s head is connected to his body through a mix of midichlorians and magnets (but mostly just magnets). Yes, now you can thank magnets for both confounding The Insane Clown Posse and giving the world BB-8.

May the app be with you Control BB-8
Beyond its squee-inducing looks, BB-8 is a legitimately high-tech toy. Based on the same technology as the Sphero robotic ball, which has an electric motor inside, BB-8 connects to your iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth.

Once connected, you use the mobile BB-8 app to drive the droid like a remote control car. Even for someone as in tune with the Force as I am, though, BB-8’s controls aren’t exactly intuitive.

To move BB-8, you use an on-screen joystick that lets you roll the droid in whichever direction you want. In general, driving BB-8 is pretty easy, but it takes some getting used to. We’re not talking spending time in Dagobah with Yoda, but it’ll take a few minutes.

The app, which comes complete with Star Wars theme music and BB-8 sound effects, also includes pre-recorded actions that let BB-8 shake his head yes or no, do a figure eight, move in a square, and perform a faux scan of the room.

Watch Demo Below :

Help me BB-8, you’re my only hope
Like his droid cousin R2-D2, BB-8 can project holographic messages. But since BB-8 is just a toy (shhh, don’t tell him), he can’t actually project a hologram. Instead, you can use your smartphone to play a holographic message using augmented reality.

When you point your phone’s camera at BB-8, it looks like the message is coming from BB-8 on your handset’s screen. It isn’t, of course, but there’s nothing wrong with imagining it does.

Outside of that, BB-8 also has a patrol mode that lets him wander around doing his own thing without any need to interact with him. Amazingly, despite the fact that BB-8 is clearly a toy you control with your phone, he genuinely feels alive when he’s on patrol.

It’s alive!
More than a few people to whom I showed the droid were excited to see him, and asked if he was actually real. Even my cameraman, who saw me set up BB-8 and connect him to my iPhone, treated him like a living being.

The thing that really sells you on BB-8 being alive, though, is his voice controls. Though not available in the beta software, BB-8’s voice controls let you tell him to move; if you yell “It’s a trap!” he will freak out and run away. (Bonus points if you say it in Admiral Ackbar’s voice.)

The BB-8 is waterproof and, according to Sphero, is incredibly durable. In fact, the droid can apparently survive a blow from a shotgun shell. Kids, don’t try this at home.
