Bionic eyes by 2017 : How new contact lenses could triple the quality of your eyesight

These new contact lenses could triple the quality of your eyesight and could spell the end for laser eye surgery and glasses.

About two months ago, a group of biohackers from the group Science for the Masses carried out a personal experiment that created quite a stir.

The researchers took eye drops containing chlorophyll-based chlorin E6 dye, and were therefore able to achieve a significant—albeit temporary—increase in their night vision. Such was this increase, that it was possible for them to see people standing in front of a tree 50 metres away in total darkness.

During this stunt, which one of the participating researchers later referred to as “crap science,” a different scientific discovery relating to sight was made that was just as good, but far more sustainable — the Ocumetic Bionic Lens. Dr. Garth Webb, an optometrist from British Columbia and inventor of this special lens, promises that it can help triple normal visual acuity — for almost everyone.

Biotech is better than nature

Webb’s biocompatible polymer lenses could not only mean the end of laser eye surgery, glasses and contact lenses, but could also offer protection against cataracts, a clouding of the lens that leads to a slow loss of visual acuity.

The procedure is straightforward, painless and takes just 8 minutes.

The reason for this is that the human lens, which degrades as we get older, is completely removed and replaced by this bionic counterpart. The surgical procedure is quite straightforward, painless, and it only takes about eight minutes on average. This is because the custom-made lens, which is curled up in a syringe filled with saline solution, is only placed in the eye via a 7 mm incision, where it then unfolds within 10 seconds.

Will we have bionic eyes by 2017?

In principle, the procedure is similar to cataract treatment — the person treated benefits from improved visual acuity immediately. Negative consequences—such as biophysical side-effects in the form of a separation of toxins—are also not expected according to Webb, nor are disadvantages that occasionally occur with the use of other artificial lenses. These include a weak form of double vision, reduced contrast or an impairment in stereopsis.
A better improvement in vision than has ever been seen before..

Webb is convinced that his lens can help everyone over 25—the age at which the eye is fully developed and vision is stable—achieve perfect visual acuity. “If you can see a clock 10 feet away without the bionic lens, you will be able to see [that clock] from as far as 30 feet away with it,” says Webb.

“No matter how bad the condition of the eyes,” he adds, the Bionic Lens allows a “better improvement in vision than has ever been seen before.”

As amazing as all this sounds, a certain degree of skepticism still exists. This is because, even though Webb—along with his company Ocumetics Technology Corp.—has invested approximately eight years and $3 million in his bionic lens, larger companies (with even larger budgets) have also sought such a lens solution and have only had moderate success.

Science fact or science fiction?

It wouldn’t be the first time that David came out victorious over Goliath. But it also wouldn’t be the first time that a solution touted as being revolutionary turned out to be a pipe dream. In technology circles, it’s often dubbed “vapourware.”

And even if the Bionic Lens does what Webb promises, people who would not usually give much credence to conspiracy theories are questioning whether the industry—from eye doctors and pharmaceutical companies to manufacturers of contact lenses and glasses—might have a distinct interest in deliberately holding such a technological advance.

Have you actually looked at the website and looked at the 'working prototype' video? It might look like its a scam... 10 years ago we would've said the same about 256 gigabyte "micro SD cards" (which are the size of a toe nale)... and these are a fact since this year or maybe even last year. So, don't be so pessimistic. . They might prove all you naysayers wrong, and release this...

How to Create Bootable ISO from Windows ESD File

The ESD files that Microsoft uses to ship Windows 10 new builds allow anyone to create new ISOs. No new ISOs have been provided because it wants user to try out the upgrade path.

When Windows 10 Technical Preview is upgraded to a new build using the PC Settings Download & Install method, Microsoft uses the ESD file format to deliver install files needed. ESD stands for Electronic Software Delivery, the Windows install.esd file contains the usual Windows install.wim file (WIM = Windows Imaging), encrypted and compressed. Install.wim file in its turn contains everything needed for a complete Windows installation.

This tutorial will show you how to create a bootable ISO file from the install.esd file you have downloaded which can then be burned to a DVD disk or USB to be used for clean install instead of upgrade.

This tutorial is made to be used with Windows 10 Technical Insider Preview build upgrades and will be updated when possible Windows 10 Consumer Preview will be available, and again when Windows 10 final build is released.

Windows Update  TH2 Pro  Build 10525 is the first build released since RTM Build 10240 was shipped out in July

READ : Windows 10 RTM (TH1 build 10240) -- download full version, before release date

TH2 Pro  Build 10525  will be my example on this post.

OK lets Start!!

When a new build is available download it, install if you want to use it on the same computer. Installing is not necessary to create an ISO file as told in this tutorial, the files needed are available after downloading them..

Located on your Drive C:\$Windows.~BT\   If you can NOT see this  enable show hidden folders.  Make sure you have the install.esd  file inside the C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\  if not  click and check Windows update again.

 1. Download The ESDtoISO tool is based on ESD Decrypter v.6.7. Download the tool (ESDtoISO.zip) from OneDrive: bit.ly/TenForums

or Google Drive : http://adf.ly/1N2Oll

2. Disable any AV program. You can enable it again after the ISO file has been created. Make sure that the ESD file is not read-only or blocked. Extract this package to a folder, naming the folder as you wish.

3. Right click on ESDtoISO.cmd and select Run as administrator.  You will be prompted to enter the ESD file path. For instance, if your ESD file is INSTALL.ESD and it is located in Z:\Downloads, enter Z:\Downloads\INSTALL.ESD or on my BMT tuts  this where the file usually found  C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\INSTALL.ESD

4. Select the ISO you want to create, a traditional ISO which contains the install.wim   (recommended) file to install Windows, or an ESD based ISO which instead of install.wim file contains the compressed install.esd to install Windows. Both types can be used the same way to install Windows, both can be used as such, mounted to a virtual drive or burned to Flash or DVD drive.

5. The tool starts working, showing an error for missing key. This error can be ignored:

6. The process can take some time, up to half an hour depending on your hardware. When finished you have an ISO image to be used as such in installing the new build on a virtual machine or to be burned to DVD or USB to be used on a clean install on a physical computer.

Windows 10 Pro Build 10525 x64 ISO Insider Preview

Windows Update  TH2 Pro  Build 10525 is the first build released since 10240 was shipped out in July.

The Insider Program is going to continue. People that have joined the preview program now have a new build of Windows 10 available to them.

What's new in Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10525 - DEVELOPING
Desktop

  •     New color options - default color for Start, Acton Center, Taskbar, and Title bars and that you wanted to be able to change to reflect your preferences. This feature is now available (though still early) in build 10525 for you to try. This is off by default, but you can turn it on by toggling this (Settings > Personalization > Colors):

Edge
  •     Base for Object RTC support

And further
  •     Improved memory management -added a new concept in the Memory Manager called a compression store, which is an in-memory collection of compressed pages. This means that when Memory Manager feels memory pressure, it will compress unused pages instead of writing them to disk. This reduces the amount of memory used per process, allowing Windows 10 to maintain more applications in physical memory at a time. This also helps provide better responsiveness across Windows 10. The compression store lives in the System process’s working set. Since the system process holds the store in memory, its working set grows larger exactly when memory is being made available for other processes. This is visible in Task Manager and the reason the System process appears to be consuming more memory than previous releases.

We do have a few known issues with this build.

Part of the fun of being a Windows Insider is getting to tinker with prerelease software before the rest of the world, but you should be very aware as an Insider that prerelease software will come with bugs and things that are incomplete. Make sure you know and accept what you’re opting in to when you join the program, and of course make sure to back up all of your personal data before you begin.
  • Mobile hotspot doesn’t work in this build. When sharing the Internet from your device with mobile broadband using Mobile Hotspot, it will fail to get a valid IP address from your device and will show no internet access.
  • An update to Movies & TV application from the Store will be required to fix an issue with video playback.
  • Optional languages packs will not be available during the initial launch of this flight, it will be available later this week.
  • Disabled Non Supported Drivers
