Largest Diamond In Over A Century Found In Botswana 1,111-carat

A 1,111-carat diamond has been discovered in a mine in southern Africa. According to the mining company, the gem is the largest find in more than a century, and the second largest discovered in the world so far.

It was recovered in the Karowe mine, 500 kilometers (310 miles) from Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. It was unearthed by the Lucara Diamond Corporation, which also dug up two further whoppers: an 813-carat stone and a 374-carat stone.

The diamond measures 6.5 by 5.6 by 4 centimeters (2.5 by 2.2 by 1.6 inches). It's a Type IIa diamond: These are made almost completely of pure carbon, which makes them clear in color. While obviously incredibly valuable, it was impossible to price after the discovery: The stone couldn’t be inspected on site as it was larger than the scanner available. The price of a diamond depends on cutting, optimal shape, final color, and the presence of imperfections.

Cullinan diamond -
is the largest diamond ever found. It was originally 3,106 carats and was cut into nine distinct stones, belonging to the British Royal family.

Botswana - is the world’s second biggest diamond producer in term of volume and the first in terms of value. Since the 1990s, the mining of diamonds has guaranteed prosperity to the country, which has experienced a significant economic growth.

Facebook is shipping the first consumer virtual reality product - Samsung Gear VR, a mobile VR headset powered by Oculus

Today is a historic day for virtual reality Mark Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook

After years of development, we're shipping the first consumer virtual reality product -- Samsung Gear VR, a mobile VR headset powered by Oculus.

Our mission with Oculus is empower you to experience anything, anywhere with anyone. Now, you can begin to step into a world with thousands of immersive videos, movies and games with Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 phones.

The reviews of this product are great. WIRED says "Good VR is here" and "...spending $99 on it is a no-brainer. There's nothing like it..." while Fortune says "Gear VR is the best money can buy".
I believe VR is the next big computing platform -- and a lot of people will experience it for the first time on mobile.

Here's a photo of me playing CCP's Gunjack on Gear VR with Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe. It's hard to explain how fun and immersive the experience feels of instantly being in another place -- in space, under water, on a mountain, anywhere. I look forward to many more people having this experience in the years to come.

Scientists have managed to cool a liquid using a laser "Freeze Ray"

For the first time, a team from the University of Washington has cooled down a liquid using a laser. They were able to cool down water by 20°C (36°F) using an infrared laser – a significant breakthrough in the decades-long quest of achieving laser refrigeration in real-life conditions.

"Typically, when you go to the movies and see Star Wars laser blasters, they heat things up. This is the first example of a laser beam that will refrigerate liquids like water under everyday conditions," said senior author Peter Pauzauskie in a statement. "It was really an open question as to whether this could be done because normally water warms when illuminated."

Supervillains Rejoice!!, Remember Doctor Freeze "Arnold Schwarzenegger on Batman and Robin movie.

Or Gru Freeze ray on Minions movie  Despicable Me.

The researchers shined an infrared laser onto a special microscopic crystal; the excited crystal then emits visible light (in a reddish-green colour) which is slightly more energetic than the light received from the laser. The extra energy needed for this shift from infrared to visible needs to come from somewhere, so the nanocrystal steals it from the liquid that surrounds it, effectively cooling it.

Laser refrigeration was first demonstrated in a vacuum in 1995, but this is the first time it has been shown to work on liquids. The effect was only demonstrated on a single nanocrystal; scaling the effect on multiple crystals would require more powerful lasers. "The laser refrigeration process is currently quite energy intensive," Pauzauskie said, "and future steps include looking for ways to improve its efficiency."

The success and applicability of this development has far-reaching consequences in science and technology, beyond threatening a city with terrible ice puns. For example, the ability to reduce temperature in a stable and controlled way can help scientists slow down biological and chemical processes.

"There’s a lot of interest in how cells divide and how molecules and enzymes function, and it’s never been possible before to refrigerate them to study their properties," added Pauzauskie. "Using laser cooling, it may be possible to prepare slow-motion movies of life in action. And the advantage is that you don’t have to cool the entire cell, which could kill it or change its behavior."
The team hopes that this research, to be published this week by the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences, will pique the interest of other scientists.

"Few people have thought about how they could use this technology to solve problems because using lasers to refrigerate liquids hasn't been possible before," Paden Roder, lead author of the study, commented. "We are interested in the ideas other scientists or businesses might have for how this might impact their basic research or bottom line."

Medical Professional Pigeons Trained To Spot Cancer

We know researchers found that dogs could accurately spot cancer from very early stage.
Now it's possible for pigeons, with a little training, to distinguish breast tissue from tumors on biopsy slides. No hospital is known to have plans to replace highly qualified medical professionals with pigeons (Columba livia), although given the potential salary savings, it may only be a matter of time.

Professor Richard Levenson of the University of California, Davis, showed 16 pigeons touchscreen images of microscope slides of either benign or malignant breast tissue. Half the pigeons were rewarded with food for picking healthy slides, the other half for choosing slides showing cancer, while subgroups were given slides in monochrome or higher resolution. Levenson then tested their capacity to classify slides they had not seen before. The results are published in PLOS ONE.

"The pigeons were able to generalize what they had learned, so that when we showed them a completely new set of normal and cancerous digitized slides, they correctly identified them," Levenson said in a statement. "Their accuracy, like that of humans, was modestly affected by the presence or absence of color in the images, as well as by degrees of image compression.”

"Pigeons' accuracy from day one of training at low magnification increased from 50 percent correct to nearly 85 percent correct at days 13 to 15,” Levenson said. The paper notes that this is "a task that can perplex inexperienced human observers who typically require considerable training to attain mastery.” Pigeons proved able to adapt their learning when confronted with images at unfamiliar magnifications.

Levenson then tested the pigeons' radiology skills and reported, “The pigeons also learned to correctly identify cancer-relevant microcalcifications on mammograms.” No comparisons of humans have been conducted under similar conditions, but Levenson told IFLScience that, "I gave one of the problem sets to our administative assistants, with verbal instructions as well as visual training, and after one hour of exposure they were certainly not as good as the birds after several days."

The pigeons were not perfect, though. Levenson admitted “they had a tougher time classifying suspicious masses on mammograms – a task that is extremely difficult, even for skilled human observers." Nevertheless, radiologists scored 80 percent on the "relatively subtle" slides used for this test, while the pigeons couldn't beat chance.

Professor Edward Wasserman, a co-author from the University of Iowa, added: "Research over the past 50 years has shown that pigeons can distinguish identities and emotional expressions on human faces, letters of the alphabet, misshapen pharmaceutical capsules, and even paintings by Monet vs. Picasso.” Intriguingly, the paper notes, “The pigeons proved to have an affinity for histopathology, as they achieved stable high performance as fast as or faster than with other visual discrimination problems studied in our Iowa laboratory.”

Most remarkably, if the assessments of multiple pigeons on each slide were added together – in a sort of pigeon democracy the authors call “flock-sourcing” – accuracy reached 99 percent.

The authors argue that while doctors will remain essential for diagnosis, “Our results suggest that pigeons can be used as suitable surrogates for human observers in certain medical image perception studies, thus avoiding the need to recruit, pay, and retain clinicians as subjects for relatively mundane tasks.” For example, testing against pigeons may be a way to speed up the development of computerized cancer diagnosis.

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10586 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring

Windows Insider releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10586 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. This build for mobile has a lots of good bug fixes and general improvements for you to check out. Overall this is a really great build, and we’re excited to get it out there for all of you to try. There is an important note for anyone who installed Build 10581 and then subsequently factory reset your phone, so please make sure to check out the known issues below.

Here are some things we have fixed:
•We have fixed the issue that caused the Start experience to become corrupted (garbled) after upgrading and restoring a backup from a phone that had a different resolution.
•You should now be able to set your default save locations via Settings > System > Storage and it will correctly reflect the current storage settings. Your SD card should no longer show up as a garbled name in Storage settings either.
•Moving apps to a SD card should no longer cause those apps to crash.
•We’ve made improvements to the Messaging + Skype app – through both app updates via the Store and also on the server side.
•This should be seeing less resuming/loading text when switching apps.
•The physical camera button should be working again if it wasn’t working for you before.
•Apps and games should download from the Store more reliably.

Known issues:
•After we released Build 10581 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring, we discovered a bug in the build that will cause the filesystem to become partially corrupted after doing a factory reset. For those of you who did a factory reset of your phone, you most likely did not notice this issue on Build 10581. Due to this bug however, upgrading to Build 10586 will cause your phone to go into a reboot loop after the upgrade completes – rebooting at the Windows or operator logo. To recover your phone, you can use the hardware key combination to reset your phone which will then put it at the OOBE experience on Build 10586. We highly recommend that you make sure you do a backup your phone *before* upgrading to Build 10586 due to this bug. Additionally, you can also recover your phone by using the Windows Device Recovery Tool to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 and then upgrade to Build 10586.
•Deploying Silverlight apps through Visual Studio to your phone still won’t work in this build. This issue will be fixed with the release of Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 on Nov. 30th. You can deploy UWP apps to your phone without any issues.
•There is a known issue where the tile for Insider Hub still remains under All apps but doesn’t open. Insider Hub isn’t included in this build. There isn’t a way to get it back unfortunately. However, it’ll return in a future flight! In the meantime, use Insider Hub on the PC as a workaround.

As always, please use the Windows Feedback app to send us any problem reports or suggestions for this build.

First Quamtum Code On A Silicon - Australian Breakthrough

Engineers from the University of New South Wales, Australia, have made an important breakthrough that brings quantum computers one step closer to reality.

The team created a quantum version of a standard computer code within a silicon chip. The discovery shows that it is possible to construct realistic and reliable quantum computers.

Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems much more quickly than any computer that exists today, as they combine the rules of informatics to phenomena of quantum mechanics that are not observed in everyday life. Namely, the principle of superposition, popularized by Schrödinger’s cat being both alive and dead, and entanglement.

The specific test conducted in Australia used entanglement to run the code. Entangled particles are created together in a specific way so that their properties, such as energy and momentum, are connected. If a property is changed on one particle, for example during a measurement, the others will be affected as well. The changes are instantaneous, even if the two particles are at opposite ends of the universe, so scientists thought that it might be a violation of special relativity, which dictates that information cannot travel faster than light. Recently, it has been demonstrated that entanglement is a real phenomenon, though.

Using quantum behaviors adds more capability to computing. "This is, in some sense, the reason why quantum computers can be so much more powerful," said Stephanie Simmons, co-author of the study, in a statement. "With the same number of bits, they allow us to write a computer code that contains many more words, and we can use those extra words to run a different algorithm that reaches the result in a smaller number of steps."

The experiment consisted of creating an entangled state between the nucleus of a phosphorus atom and a single electron within a silicon chip. The phosphorus and the electron form a qubit, the quantum equivalent of a computer bit, and the experiment showed that they can be easily controlled and used for operations. While a conventional bit has only two possible states – 0 and 1 – qubits have many more thanks to quantum mechanics, which is why quantum computers are expected to be significantly more powerful than the computers we have today.

"Now, we have shown beyond any doubt that we can write this code inside a device that resembles the silicon microchips you have on your laptop or your mobile phone," said Professor Andrea Morello, leader of the team. "It's a real triumph of electrical engineering."

The research is published in Nature Nanotechnology.

From Where did the terrorist cell that planned the brutal terrorist attacks in Paris get Fundings?

The Anti-terrorism group of ethical hackers, Ghost Security Group (GSG), said that ISIS regularly uses cryptocurrencies to fund its terrorist operations.

The anonymous member of GSG has uncovered several Bitcoin addresses that they said, might be used by ISIS. One of the accounts they analyzed was found to contain $3 Million in US dollars worth of Bitcoins.

The world watched in horror as coordinate attacks in Paris Friday night killed more than 130 people and  left over 352 injured.

Following the bloody terror attacks, the hacktivist collective Anonymous declared war on the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) saying, "We will launch the biggest operation ever against you."

"The Islamic State does use cryptocurrencies as a form of income to fund their ongoing operations, and we have managed to uncover several Bitcoin addresses used by them," a member of Ghost Security Group said in an interview with NewsBTC.

"We had discovered a BtC address linked to a known Islamic State deep website approximately three months ago and provided it to dw.com. They hired a team of blockchain analysts to trace the cryptocurrency to the estimated 3 million in BtC the discovered."

Although there are no actual proofs that cryptocurrencies were used to support the terrorist attacks in Paris, GSG claimed…

…it had uncovered several Bitcoin funding sites utilized by the ISIS on the dark web and successfully shut them down to limit the funding extremists receive through the use of cryptocurrencies.

There's a joke in the legal world that criminals' most dangerous weapon is the flush toilet. Imagine, a perfect evidence-disposal system installed in every home in America, available whenever you hear the detectives knock on your door. Tens thousands of potential arrests have been flushed down toilets over the years.

Today, instead of the flush toilet, we learned about the PlayStation 4. In a now-retracted story, Forbes made the case that PlayStation's private chat and VoIP features may have been used in plotting the attacks, kicking off a wave of concerns over gaming networks and their potential use in plotting terrorist acts.

While Forbes has since backed off the claim that a PS4 was found in an attacker's apartment, the air of suspicion hasn't fully lifted. There really have been cases of ISIS sympathizers using the PlayStation network to communicate or recruit, and it's the kind of offbeat channel an intelligence officer might miss. PlayStation’s network is open to anyone with the right console, and there’s lots of noise to distract anyone who might look there. As the UK's Investigatory Powers Bill heads to parliament, the political will to clamp down on those networks is stronger than it's ever been. So why shouldn't we?

The first thing to say is that the PlayStation network isn't particularly secure. It's not end-to-end encrypted, and Sony is open about the company's right to surveil users, even if it doesn't have much of an apparatus to do so. Unlike encrypted chat apps like Telegram and WhatsApp, the PlayStation networks weren't designed with security in mind, and most users care far more about latency and downtime than they do about privacy. If an intelligence service is looking for you specifically, it's just not that good of a place to hide.

What the networks do have is a lot of people, which makes them useful for meeting inconspicuously. You won't stand out if you set up a private chat on PSN, the way you might if you log onto a protected chat room or IRC channel. It's the protection of the crowd, the same way you might talk more freely in a noisy bar where you won’t be overheard. This kind of privacy is more about cultural expectations than strict security, and it’s particularly important because of that. It can be used by terrorists, sure, but so can dimly lit restaurants and crowded parks. If that's scary, then all private spaces are scary. If you believe that logic, you've made a boogeyman out of privacy itself.

All of which brings us back to the flush toilet. In the wake of a tragedy, shock makes us value security over all else, often forgetting smaller virtues in the rush to protect ourselves. It's a natural impulse, but it's worth considering where it might take us, left unchecked. With enough fear, anything comes to look threatening: a gaming console, a toilet, a smartphone. Will destroying them make us more or less powerful?

Putin: ISIS Financed by 40 Countries, Including G20 Member States

At the recent G20 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that ISIS is financed by individual businessmen from 40 countries, including some G20 members.

However, Putin hopes that the work with the G20 members in the fight against terrorism will continue. "I think that cooperation in fighting terrorism is very important," Putin told reporters.

Putin also calls out Obama for arming and training Fighters for ISIS, saying U.S.-trained rebels were leaving to join ISIS with weapons supplied by Washington.

“In my opinion, provision of military support to illegal structures runs counter to the principles of modern international law and the United Nations Charter,” Putin told reporters.

The Ship SS Cotopaxi Reappears After 90 Years Missing in Bermuda Triangle

The Cuban authorities spotted the ship for the first time on May 16, near a restricted military zone, west of Havana. They made many unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the crew, and finally mobilized three patrol boats to intercept it.

When they reached it, they were surprised to find that the ship was actually a nearly 100-year old steamer identified as the Cotopaxi, a name famously associated with the legend of the Bermuda Triangle. There was no one on board and the ship seemed to have been abandoned for decades, suggesting that this could actually be the tramp freighter that disappeared in 1925.

An exhaustive search of the ship led to the discovery of the captain’s logbook. It was, indeed, associated with the Clinchfield Navigation Company, the owners of the SS Cotopaxi, but hasn’t brought any clue concerning what happened to the ship over the last 90 years.

Cuban expert, Rodolfo Salvador Cruz, believes that the captain’s logbook is authentic. This document is full of precious information concerning the life of the crew before the ship’s disappearance, but the entries stop suddenly on December 1, 1925.

On 29 November 1925, the SS Cotopaxi departed Charleston, South Carolina, and headed towards Havana, Cuba. The ship had a crew of 32 men, under the command of Captain W. J. Meyer, and was carrying a cargo of 2340 tons of coal. It was reported missing two days later, and was unheard of for almost 90 years.

The Vice President of Council of Ministers, General Abelardo Colomé, announced that the Cuban authorities were going to conduct a thorough investigation to elucidate the mystery of the ship’s disappearance and reappearance.

“It is very important for us to understand what happened” says General Colomé. “Such incidents could be really bad for our economy, so want to make sure that this kind of disappearance doesn’t happen again. The time has come to solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, once and for all.”
The Bermuda Triangle is a loosely defined region covering the area between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Popular culture has attributed many of the disappearances to paranormal and supernatural phenomena, or to the activity of extraterrestrial beings. One explanation, even pins the blame on leftover technology from the mythical lost continent of Atlantis.

Despite the popularity of all these strange theories, most scientists don’t even recognize the existence of the Bermuda Triangle, and blame human mistakes and natural phenomena for the disappearances.

The mysterious reappearance of the SS Cotopaxi has, however, already generated a lot of interest in the scientific community and could push some experts to change their mind on the subject.

From Another website : And I was getting excited about a mysterious story It was a Fake!

The SS Cotopaxi is a real ship however, disappearing in December 1925 in the Bermuda region. The image of the SS Cotopaxi used in the World News Daily Report (pictured above) was actually a prop taken from the “Close Encounters” Spielberg movie where in the film the ship was found in the Gobi desert.
