Ransomware based on leaked NSA tools spreads to dozens of countries in the last 24 hours

WannaCry Ransomware That's Hitting World Right Now

A ransomware attack seemingly based on leaked NSA hacking tools is spreading like wildfire among unpatched Windows systems worldwide. Early reports suggested it was targeted at the UK’s National Health Service, but it’s clear now that the attack is a global one, with thousands of computers apparently affected in Russia alone.

A Kaspersky lab analysis puts the number of infected computers at more than 45,000 as of early Friday afternoon, the vast majority of which are Russian (Ukraine, India, Taiwan and Philippines follow). The ransomware’s code makes it pretty clear that it’s taking advantage of an exploit called EternalBlue, published in April by the Shadow Brokers but patched preemptively by Microsoft in March.

If everyone just kept their boxes up to date we wouldn’t have the current viral conflagration, of course, but as usual that’s too much to ask.

A bitcoin wallet reportedly used by the ransomers shows numerous incoming transactions of between 0.15 and 0.3 BTC, worth around $250-$500 today, so at least a few of those infected have opted to pay rather than attempt to extricate their data safely or do a full wipe and rollback.

Microsoft released a patch for the vulnerability in March (MS17-010), but many users and organizations who did not patch their systems are open to attacks. (specially pirated ones)

On Good Friday, the Shadow Brokers released a massive trove of Windows hacking tools allegedly stolen from NSA that works against almost all versions of Windows, from Windows 2000 and XP to Windows 7 and 8, and their server-side variants such as Server 2000, 2003, 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012, except Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.

The exploit has the capability to penetrate into machines running unpatched version of Windows XP through 2008 R2 by exploiting flaws in Microsoft Windows SMB Server. This is why WannaCry campaign is spreading at an astonishing pace.

Once a single computer in your organization is hit by the WannaCry ransomware, the worm looks for other vulnerable computers and infects them as well. I suggest unplug the LAN of the infected computer so I won't spread on other network computers

In addition some say they crack the malware with password "WNcry@2o17",  if you encounter this ramsomware try the crack password for WannaCry  "WNcry@2o17" without quote.

Safe Way To Wash a Computer Motherboard

What will happend when you clean a motherboard?
1. Motherboard with no Screen can be Fix  when washing .
2. Motherboard performance will be a speed as brand new.
3. When ever you want to sell your PC washing it is Good.

What are the things  must do?
1. Remove Cmos battery first
2. Use liqud detergent like Joy to wash your motherboard, mus not do it with powder because powder particle may sink to tiny opening and can damage your motherboard or shorted.
3. Dry it with blower or dryer gently.
4. If you dont have dryer put it under the sun with cardboard so it wont break or over heat(para di lumutong).

T-rays research accelerates computer memory by a factor of 1,000

A group of Russian and European researchers has introduced a new method of quickly switching the computer memory cells.Using terahertz radiation named T-rays, the rate of cell-resetting can be increased by a factor of 1,000.

Together with their colleagues from Germany and the Netherlands, scientists at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have found a way to significantly improve computer performance. In their paper published in Nature Photonics, they propose the use of the so-called T-waves, or terahertz radiation as a means of resetting computer memory cells. This process is several thousand times faster than magnetic-field-induced switching.

The research mentions the use of T-rays for swapping out the magnetic fields. This could boost the cell-resetting process by a groundbreaking factor of 1,000, resulting in the creation of ultrafast memory.

You might be wondering what’s so special about T-rays. These are basically a series of short EM pulses at terahertz frequencies. The team has performed an experiment with thulium orthoferrite (TmFeO₃), achieving  higher speeds with an external magnetic field to control the spins.

However, when T-rays were used, the spins were controllable at a much faster rate and, without an external field, too. The researchers claim that their study is the first one to make use of such mechanism to control the resetting of magnetic subsystems.

The scientists are yet to publish their results on the actual PC memory cells. So, it can’t be predicted when we’ll see T-rays being used in our PCs.

The figure shows the spin and lattice structure of thulium orthoferrite (TmFeO₃) on the left and the T-ray-induced transitions between the energy levels of thulium ions (Tm³⁺), which trigger coherent spin dynamics (memory switching), on the right.

The scientists expect their “T-ray switching” to work with other materials as well. Thulium orthoferrite, which was used in the experiment, happens to be convenient for the purposes of demonstration, but the proposed magnetization control scheme itself is applicable to many other magnetic materials.

“There was a Soviet research group that used orthoferrites in their studies, so this was always kind of a priority field for us. This research can be seen as a follow-up on their studies,” says Anatoly Zvezdin.

Formatting a Disk - Quick format vs Full format

When formatting a disk on a Windows PC, you might have come across the option of Quick Format and Full Format. So, what choice do you make? And how to make that choice? Apart from the speed, quick and fast, what’s the real difference between the two?

Disk formatting is the process of preparing a data storage device such as a hard disk drive, solid-state drive, floppy disk or USB flash drive for initial use. In some cases, the formatting operation may also create one or more new file systems.

Formatting can be considered similar to destroying the bookshelf and catalogue. However, if you choose the quick format option, the books are still present in the debris and one can regain them. On the other hand, full format removes the books completely. Now, let’s go in the technical details.

What happens during full format?

If you choose to go ahead with the full format option, the files are removed completely from a particular volume. Also, the hard disk is scanned for bad sectors. If found, the full format option also tries to fix the bad sector. If the fix is successful, the hard drive is made healthy again and you can again write data on it. This also creates a new filesystem table on the hard drive.

A bad sector is a disk sector that’s unwritable or inaccessible due to permanent damage. This might be due to failed flash memory transistors or damage to the disk surface.

Since the launch of Windows Vista, Microsoft has started writing zeros to all data sectors. That’s why full format takes much more time than the quick format. Permanently delete file no recovery can be done.

What about quick format?

Instead of deleting all the data (and replacing it with zeroes), a quick format only deletes the file system journaling (the bookshelf catalogue). A quick format simply destroys the journal that is used to keep a track of the file and its location on the hard drive. It doesn’t scan the disk for bad sectors and skips rebuilding the file system in short Very Fast when it comes in reformatting. After that, as you write new data, the older data gets overwritten. At this point recovery tools can be used to regain all deleted files.

Full format vs Quick format — Which one should I choose?

A quick format doesn’t destroy your data. The data is still on the disk and using many file recovery software, one can undelete the files. A full format also scrubs the hard drive from scratch and rebuilds all the file structures. So, if you are selling a device or giving it away, full format is the only option you need to choose. A full format will also help you increase the disk performance, speed, and stability.

However, if your hard drive is already clean and it doesn’t have bad sectors, a quick format is suitable. If you aren’t sure about these points, perform a full format.
