PayPal cofounder donates $1.25 Million to Donald Trumps campaign

Peter Thiel is putting his money where his mouth is.
The billionaire PayPal cofounder is donating $1.25 million to Donald Trump's campaign, according to a source close to Thiel.

Thiel has been a vocal supporter of Trump -- one of the most prominent in Silicon Valley. He spoke at the Republican National Convention and made history when he declared on stage that he was proud to be gay.
Thiel's donation will be given through Super PACs and directly to Trump's campaign, according to the source. This is the first time Thiel will be donating to Trump. The donation was first reported by the New York Times.

Thiel is famous in Silicon Valley for holding extreme, counterintuitive views. He is a rabid libertarian who has invested money to make people immortal, develop floating cities away from the reach of governments and convince young people not to go to college, among other endeavors.

He has become increasingly controversial, after news broke earlier this year that he had funded Hulk Hogan's lawsuit against Gawker, ultimately forcing the media company into bankruptcy.

Thiel was one of the earliest investors in Facebook (FB, Tech30) and currently sits on the company's board. He has also made investments in Zynga (ZNGA), Reddit and Asana.

PayPal Wants to Kill All Password and Replace it with Natural Body Identification

Future of identification would not rely on Passwords, according to PayPal’s global head of developer evangelism Jonathan Leblanc.
      Embeddable, Injectable and Ingestible Devices the next generation of identification for mobile payments and other sensitive online interactions will depend on embeddable, injectable, and ingestible devices, completely replacing passwords with the identification of your body.

LeBlanc has recently started giving a presentation titled "Kill all Passwords" at various security and tech conferences in the United States and Europe.

In the presentation "Kill all Passwords," LeBlanc is claiming that the future generation will be represented by "true integration with the human body."

By True integration with the human body, LeBlanc means…

...instead of using "antiquated" external body functions such as Fingerprints and IRIS scans for the identification of online users, internal body functions such as Vein and Heartbeat recognition are used.

And the embedded, injected and ingestible devices will allow these "natural body identification."

These devices include:

Brain implants and attachable computer systems that "put users in charge of their own security," LeBlanc told WSJ.

And when he talk about Ingestible devices, he mean devices that could be powered by your stomach acid, which will run the batteries of those devices, LeBlanc added.

But, Why Killing Passwords?

As we have reported many times, the human nature to keep passwords for their online accounts is easy to guess and break, and according to LeBlanc, it is the right time to replace the traditional username and password verification concepts and methods.

But, when we could use more accurate and secure method, so why sticking to traditional methods?

Identity verification methods, such as thin silicon chips embedded into the skin, could results in an accurate and unique identity of a person, according to LeBlanc.

These chips can have in-built ECG sensors that could help monitor the unique electrical activity of a person’s heart, and communicate via "wireless wearable computer tattoos."

Moreover, ingestible capsules can be used to detect and analyze glucose levels and other unique internal parameters of a person’s body as a method to identify the actual identity of that person.

PAYPAL IS MOVING A STEP FORWARD

PayPal is also working with developers to build these kinds of futuristic ID verification devices, such as heartbeat recognition bands and vein recognition technology.

However, this does not mean PayPal is thinking to adopt these new biometric verification technologies; rather the company just wants to be at the forefront in the research of this field.

As LeBlanc said, "I can’t speculate as to what PayPal will do in the future, but we’re looking at new techniques – we do have fingerprint scanning that is being worked on right now – so we’re definitely looking at the identity field."

One Click Paypal Account Hack

An Egyptian security researcher, Yasser H. Ali has discovered three critical vulnerabilities in PayPal website including CSRF, Auth token bypass and Resetting the security question, which could be used by cybercriminals in the targeted attacks.
Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF or XSRF) is a method of attacking a website in which an attacker need to convince the victim to click on a specially crafted HTML exploit page that will make a request to the vulnerable website on their behalf.

This vulnerability enabled my to completely bypass the CSRF Prevention System implemented by PayPal, The vulnerability is patched very fast and PayPal paid me the maximum bounty they give ;). -Yasser H. Ali

1- Reusable CSRF Token:
The CSRF token “that authenticate every single request made by the user” which can be also found in the request body of every request with the parameter name “Auth” get changed with every request made by user for security measures, but after a deep investigation I found out that the CSRF Auth is Reusable for that specific user email address or username, this means If an attacker found any of these CSRF Tokens, He can then make actions in the behave of any logged in user.
Hmm, it seems interesting but still not exploitable, as there is no way for an attacker to get the “Auth” value from a victim session.

2- Bypassing the CSRF Auth System:
The CSRF Auth verifies every single request of that user, So what If an attacker “not logged in” tries to make a “send money” request then PayPal will ask the attacker to provide his email and password, The attacker will provide the “Victim Email” and ANY password, Then he will capture the request, The request will contain a Valid CSRF Auth token Which is Reusable and Can authorise this specific user requests. Upon Further Investigation, We have found out that an Attacker can obtain the CSRF Auth which can be valid for ALL users, by intercepting the POST request from a page that provide an Auth Token before the Logging-in process, check this page for the magical CSRF Auth “https://www.paypal.com/eg/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_send-money”. At this point the attacker Can CSRF “almost” any request on behave of this user.

Through examination of the password change process, I have found that an attacker can NOT Change the victim password without answering the Security Questions set by user, Also the user himself can NOT change the security questions without entering the password!

3- ByPassing the Security Questions Change:

The initial process of “setting” security questions is not password protected and is reusable
After further investigation, I have noticed that the request of setting up the security questions “which is initiated by the user while signing up” is not password-protected, and it can be reused to reset the security questions up without providing the password, hence, Armed with the CSRF Auth, an attacker can CSRF this process too and change the victim’s Security questions.

At this point, An attacker can conduct a targeted CSRF attack against a PayPal users and take a full control over his account Hence, An attacker can CSRF all the requests including but not limited to:

1- Add/Remove/Confirm Email address
2-Add fully privileged users to business account
3- Change Security questions
4- Change Billing/Shipping Address
5- Change Payment methods
6- Change user settings(Notifications/Mobile settings) ………… and more.
To automate the who process, I have coded a Python interactive server to demonstrate how an attacker can exploit this vulnerability in a real-life scenario attack.

How-to Get Your Paypal Acount Verified In The Philippines via Union Bank

So, I've created this article for those who wants to get their PAYPAL PHILIPPINE account get verified.

Now that you have registered a PAYPAL ACCOUNT. You can now get it verified using EON VISA ELECTRON CARD.

How?

1. Go to the nearest UNIONBANK and apply for an EON Visa Electron card. Bring 2 primary ID's with you and have it photocopied before going to UnionBank. You will be ask for a xerox copy so better photocopied it (back to back) first before going in to the bank. Then fill-up the application form. Your billing address on the application form MUST be the same as the one reflected on your PAYPAL account. Pay P350.00 (Yearly payment for a Non-Maintaining balance EON Visa Electron).

2. Wait for a week or two to claim your EON Visa Electron card and have it activated. I suggest to call first the UnionBank where you applied and ask them if your card is ready to avoid wasting your time going there. You need to deposit at least P200.00 ($1.95 or more) to your EON for your paypal purposes.

3. Once you get your card and have it activated. Enroll your debit card to UnionBank Online Banking Click on "Eon Cyber Account", a new tab or window will open. Click "Enroll Here" and start filling up the form. Your billing address should match the billing address on your UnionBank Application Form and Paypal Account registration.

4. Now, login to your paypal account and add your EON Visa Electron as your Debit Card. Go to "My Account" and hover over the "profile tab" and under it, click add/edit credit card. Or simply click on "Unverified" written next to your name. Enter your debit card information, enter the 16 digit numbers written at the center of your card and other necessary information then hit "save and continue".

5. A confirmation page will tell you that your card has been charged $1.95. This is to generate the 4-digit code also known as EXPANDED USE NUMBER (EXPUSE). Wait for 2 to 3 days then call the UnionBank customer hotline number 84-186 and ask for your 4-digit code or expanded use number. Other option is to send them an e-mail and ask for your four (4) digit expanded use number.

6. Once you have your 4-digit-code. Login again to your Paypal account and click on the "Confirm my debit or credit card" link on Account Overview.

7. Enter the 4-digit paypal code in the designated box to complete the verification process and click "submit". You will receive a confirmation message that your account has been verified.

And that's it! Congratulations.
