Samsung might have bendable, foldable smartphones technology ready by 2017

According to Bloomberg sources say that Samsung is thinking of introducing phones with bendable screens. In fact, Samsung said that it would have that technology ready by 2017 itself, just a few years ago at its investors conference. However, this goes some way to proving that Samsung has developed the tech enough to bring it to consumer product. A pair of devices will have flexible OLED screens, with one folding like a cosmetic compact and another that transforms from a 5-inch smartphone-sized screen to a display roughly eight inches large; so... a tablet.

Screen tech could be the next battleground between Samsung's Galaxy series of phones and the Apple iPhone, which is also rumored to pack OLED screens in the future. The phones, codenamed "Project Valley", may even appear as early as Mobile World Congress, around February 2017. Just give me my picnic blanket 4K TV already. I've suffered enough.

Samsung Commercial

Remember LG Display has a prototype 18-inch screen it's showing off at the CES 2016. LG's forward-looking OLED work focusing on bendable, rollable, and curving displays.

You can now post to Instagram from other iOS apps

Ever since Apple introduced app sharing extensions in iOS 8, budding iPhone photographers have been wondering where Instagram's extension was. Wouldn't it be nice if you could share a photo from any app, rather than diving into Instagram and choosing from your camera roll?

You're getting that chance today: Instagram has quietly introduced a sharing extension to the latest version of its iOS app. So long as you turn on the extension, any app that supports iOS' official sharing method can send a photo Instagram's way. That's a particularly big deal if you're fond of third-party imaging apps, which don't always automatically save pictures to your photo library.

Android users have had this share-from-anywhere luxury for a while, and numerous other photo-focused apps (such as Flickr) have had iOS sharing extensions for a long time. All the same, it's good to see Instagram fill in a missing piece of the puzzle.

Globe Telecom activated its first cell site supporting the 700MHz frequency (4G Extended)

A week after its deal to purchase part of San Miguel Corporation's telecommunications business, including prized radio frequencies, Globe Telecom on Monday activated its first cell site supporting the 700MHz frequency.

Last week, the NTC approved for Globe's use the frequencies 703 to 720.5 and 758 to 775.5 MHz.
Globe purchased the SMC assets along with rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), with both telcos promising performance improvements in mobile internet speed.

In a Facebook Post :

Just in! Globe fires up 1st 700MHz cell site in Diliman.

Globe Telecom today showed NTC officials the 1st fully operational 700MHz cell site in Diliman, QC. Speed tests showed 60-100Mbps (for 700Mhz enabled devices) mobile internet speed.

More areas will soon experience the benefits of 700MHz as Globe starts to roll out the new spectrum. #WeWant1stWorldInternetPH

NOTE : Maintenance po nyan sa ibang Frequency like Wimax  or connected no browse.

Now what is 700MHz ?

The 4G spectrum at 700MHz called 4G Extended. This provides better coverage in rural locations and is more effective at penetrating walls and buildings. The 700MHz spectrum used to be reserved for free-to-air TV (specifically UHF channels 52 through 69), the old analogue network that’s now been shut down and as such has been relicensed to us to use on mobile networks.

Unbelievable Monkey stolen a bundle of Rs.10,000 cash

Monkey enters into jewelry shop in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, and jumped on a worker, who escaped the animal's attack. The monkey then sauntered to the cash drawer only to take away a bundle of Rs.10,000 cash and then running away even as the other workers tried to catch him in vain.

Supercomputer revealed Hitler’s coding machine secrets

LONDON, United Kingdom–The machine Hitler used to send coded messages to his generals met the supercomputer that revealed its secrets on Friday, watched on by veteran operatives whose painstaking work helped bring World War II to an end.

Scientists at Bletchley Park in southern England, the WWII code breaking headquarters, fired up the valves, whirring wheels and spinning tors of the two machines to recreate how German military chiefs sent secret messages and how they were deciphered.

Hitler’s Lorenz machine boasted 1.6 million billion possible coding combinations thanks to a series of twelve rotors, a million times more complex than the more feted Enigma machine.

Volunteers at the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park in the U.K. found a part of an extremely rare Lorenz coding machine on eBay. The military-issue Lorenz teleprinter was advertised as a German telegram machine for £9.50 ($14).

Lorenz teleprinter

Through luck and the ingenuity of engineer Tommy Flowers, scientists were able to deduce how the machine operated and then build a machine to work out the settings of Lorenz’s rotors.

“Colossus” is regarded as the world’s first programmable, electronic digital computer, but received little attention as the project was kept secret for decades, depriving those responsible of due accolades.

Among those watching at the National Museum of Computing were Margaret Bullen, who helped build Colossus, and some of the remaining operatives who fed encrypted German messages into the machine, including Irene Dixon, now in her nineties.

‘Impossible task’
It was only decades after the war that Dixon discovered she had been processing the most sensitive of information.

“We found out we were intercepting coded messages sent by Hitler to his generals,” she told AFP.
“Hitler would’ve been furious if he had known, we were decrypting the messages even before his generals were”.

Information gleaned using Colossus helped the Allies confirm that Hitler mistakenly believed the D-Day landings would target Calais, and experts believe the supercomputer may have shortened the war by two years.

Dixon and other “Wrens” from the women’s branch of the Royal Navy were sworn to secrecy, and even other workers at Bletchley Park were unaware of the existence of the massive computer, which took up a whole room.

“Some of the Wrens did ask why it was so hot (close to the Colossus room), and some used to dry their washing next door,” recalled Dixon.

The main Lorenz cypher machine is on loan from the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum in Oslo, but the special keyboard used to send the message to the rotors is a recent discovery.

Museum researcher John Wetter saw a “telegram machine” for sale on auction site eBay and realized it was actually a Lorenz teleprinter.

He travelled to the southern English town of Southend and found the machine on the floor of a shed, covered “with rubbish”.

“We said ‘Thank you very much, how much was it again?’ She said ‘£9.50′, so we said ‘Here’s a £10 note — keep the change,” he said.

The 10 Colossus machines are believed to have been destroyed in order to maintain secrecy, but late scientist Tony Sale dedicated his life to rebuilding one as part of efforts to protect the Bletchley Park complex from developers.

“I’m glad that my late husband’s dream is being carried forward,” his wife Margaret told AFP.
“The last 25 years, life has been Bletchley Park. Quite a lot of people said it was an impossible task.”

The future of computing may lie in DNA

While scientists study the possibilities of storing data in DNA, the web magazine Engadget reports that another group of researchers looking into the possibility of utilizing living cells for next-generation computing.

The latest studies have developed a method of integrating both analog and digital computing into gene-based circuits. This allowed researchers to convert analog chemical reactions into binary output, or the ones and zeros that regular computers understand.

One day silicon-based computing may be a thing of the past and organic computers will be the norm.

Apart from the obvious applications on general computing, gene-based circuitry can also be helpful to the medical field where it can be programmed to treat various diseases. In fact, clinical trials have been scheduled to use gene circuitry to treat gut diseases within the year. Alfred Bayle

WATCH: Weathercaster draws guffaws over ‘penis-shaped’ cloud

An unusual cloud formation shaped like a penis did not escape the notice of a weather reporter while on TV, and provoked unabashed giggles from the news anchors.

According to Metro and the Daily Star,  weatherman Sam Wallace was doing the weather forecast on a TV channel in New Zealand when he sighted the goofy-shaped cloud.

Wallace asked viewers to guess the shape of the cloud, leaving the show’s anchors hysterically laughing. “A waterspout yesterday. Quite an amazing thing pushing over the top of the country. When you take a step back, is there anything else you see in this picture?”
The anchors spluttered into laughter upon seeing the phallic cloud formation: “It’s as subtle as a sledgehammer!”
“There is a lot of detail,” Wallace noted.

The phallic cloud was said to be a waterspout, a funnel-shaped portion of a cloud over the ocean or a body of water tresembling a solid column of water reaching upward to the cloud from which it hangs. Gianna Francesca Catolico

The first images captured by PH microsatellite Diwata-1

The first images captured by homegrown microsatellite Diwata-1, which included a photo of Isabela province taken from space, were released on Saturday, more than a month since the country’s first satellite zoomed into orbit.

Diwata-1’s onboard medium field-of-view color camera captured a portion of Isabela’s seaboard on May 17 as part of initial testing activities, according to Joel Marciano Jr., Philippine Earth Observation Microsatellite (Phil-Microsat) program leader.

The image also showed parts of Maconacon, Divilacan and Palanan towns.

Picture shows an image of the province of Isabela in the island of Luzon, the Republic of Philippines, taken by the medium field-of-view color camera (MFC), captured at 9:15 (PHT) on May 17, 2016.

The microsatellite, developed by nine young Filipino engineers from the University of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Advanced Science and Technology Institute, was launched into space aboard the Cygnus spacecraft on March 23.
It reached the International Space Station four days later and was released into orbit on April 27 from the Japanese Experiment Module nicknamed “Kibo.”

Picture shows a test image of the Earth taken by the fish-eye monochrome wide-field camera (WFC) on board DIWATA-1 at 11:55 (JST) on May 6, 2016.

Marciano said it took them around a month to release Diwata-1’s initial images because the satellite was still undergoing tests to evaluate the cameras’ performance and attitude control system.

“The initial test images were born out of the initial testing activities of Diwata-1’s different subsystems,” Marciano told.

Picture shows an image of the Tohoku area of Japan, taken by the medium field-of-view color camera (MFC) on board DIWATA-1 at 10:54 (JST) on May 9, 2016

The satellite is expected to capture images on a regular basis in the coming months “to support the science mission objectives, such as assessment of the damage associated with disasters, surveying agriculture, fisheries and forestry, and studying environment changes” in the Philippines, he said.

“We continue to actively work toward the success of the entire program that includes not just Diwata-1 and Diwata-2, but also the building of an ecosystem for space technology development. We’re hoping for [the program’s] continued success and support from the public,” he added.

Synchronize Files and Folders with FreeFileSync

FreeFileSync is a free Open Source software that helps you synchronize files and synchronize folders for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. It is designed to save your time setting up and running backup jobs while having nice visual feedback along the way.

Multi-Platform File and Folder Synchronization Application Now Supports SFTP and MTP

FreeFileSync (http://www.freefilesync.org) has released v. 7.5 of its free open source file synchronization utility for all modern versions of Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

The new Version supports the SFTP protocol. Unlike some applications that work with the secure FTP protocol, FreeFileSync eliminates the tedious and error-prone tasks of manually identifying files that have changed on the source computer and moving them to the target computer. FreeFileSync can recognize which files have changed, and move only those files to the target computer. Users can simply set up a mirror synchronization batch job, and run it each time files or folders need to be changed on the target computer.

You can use this for FAST manual patch for your computer shop!

FreeFileSync can now detect moved files on the source computer, even for targets with no file-id support (for example, when using SFTP) or with unstable file-id support (when using FAT targets). This new capability delivers a significant performance boost under NTFS-to-SFTP and NTFS-to-FAT mirror scenarios. In addition, the software now has a folder picker that saves time when selecting SFTP paths.

Version 7.5 has enhanced its media transfer protocol (MTP) support, making it even easier for users to synchronize files and folders between their PCs and their iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone or tablet, digital camera, and other MTP devices. With its emphasis on fully integrating with Windows Explorer, the software allows users to see their MTP files with Explorer, open MTP files with their default application, preselect the active MTP folder in the folder-picker dialog, and drag and drop files and folders from Explorer into FreeFileSync. All of these features work with tablets, cameras, digital audio players, PDAs, and files on any device that supports the MTP protocol.

FreeFileSync is available without cost. The software has been optimized for both CPU and File I/O performance, enabling it to scan a hard drive with hundreds of thousands of files in a few seconds. The fail-safe file copy design includes multiple strategies to prevent data corruption if the synchronization process is interrupted.

The application is designed for business and home computing users to perform routine file and folder backup and synchronization tasks. FreeFileSync makes it easy to synchronize files between two computers or between two hard drives on a single computer. FreeFileSync works with local drives, external drives, over a LAN, and with version 7.5, with SFTP and MTP protocols. Using FreeFileSync is as easy as choosing the two directories, selecting the synchronization settings, and clicking one button to compare the folders.

FreeFileSync delivers features that are normally found in the premium versions of commercial applications. It can copy locked files, compare binary files, handle symbolic links and even process two-way synchronization challenges such as detecting conflicts and propagating deletions. FreeFileSync includes a library of graphs and messages that deliver unique feedback on multiple visual and textual levels.

The software allows users to create configuration files that let them immediately show the difference between two folders, or run a synchronization by simply double-clicking a configuration file. The latest version adds a new context menu option to create diffs by copying selected files to alternate folders. This new feature makes it simple for users to compare two folders, see which files have changed, and only copy the changed files to an external folder.

FreeFileSync fully supports long file paths with more than 260 characters. The software effortlessly creates cross-platform copies among Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, as well as iOS and Android devices that support MTP.

FreeFileSync runs on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer, and all major distributions of Linux. For more information, or to download the software, visit the FreeFileSync team's website http://www.freefilesync.org.
